Automatic parameter update algorithm for regression models to estimate remaining useful life: Application in an offshore natural gas dehydration unit

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Remaining useful life (RUL) analysis of equipment prevents failures and assists in maintenance to address impending failures. To achieve this, the advancement of degradation can be measured through a determinant variable. This work presents a new methodology for estimating the number of remaining cycles (NRC), or RUL, of equipment in cyclic ...

Growth Debunked for Investors

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Growth and degrowth have become key issues in the discourse on sustainability, and their quantification (growth/degrowth rates) has become integral to the limited number of indicators used to evaluate the ecological aspects of political and organizational decisions. This paper empirically examines the relevance of corporate growth and degrowth

Mesoporous Silicon with Capacity‐Limited Lithiation: A Strategy for Stable High‐Capacity Lithium‐Ion Anodes

open access: yesEnergy Technology, EarlyView.
Pairing mesoporous silicon with capacity‐limited lithiation increases stability in high‐Si composite anodes. Across four lithiation degrees, porous Si suppresses crystalline Li15Si4 formation, lowers polarization, and exhibits far less irreversible thickening than bulk micro‐Si particles, as confirmed by scanning electron microscopy thickness analysis.

Record‐Wise Disaggregated Seismic Fragilities for Interconnected Systems

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Seismic risk assessment studies typically rely on fragility functions/curves to characterize the susceptibility of an asset or a class of assets to damage. These curves are essentially a summarization of responses evaluated on the basis of ground motions with record characteristics and intensities that may or may not be tied to a specific site

UK Forecasts of Annual GDP: Their Accuracy and the Information Categories Underlying Their Revisions

open access: yesJournal of Forecasting, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Policy makers are concerned with the accuracy of GDP forecasts and want to understand the reasons for the revision of forecasts. We study these issues by examining forecasts of annual UK GDP growth by a panel of agents, published monthly by HM Treasury. We focus on two main issues: the developing accuracy of the group‐mean forecast as horizons

The Case of Fleeting Orders and Flickering Quotes

open access: yesJournal of Futures Markets, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The literature controversially discusses the ambiguous motives and driving forces behind quickly cancelled limit orders (fleeting orders), which are characteristic of high‐frequency markets. In particular, manipulative and dysfunctional characteristics are feared. We analyze top‐of‐book fleeting orders—so‐called flickering quotes—and show with

Beyond the Bin: The Effect of Waste Reduction on Real Earnings Management

open access: yesInternational Journal of Finance &Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the effect of waste management strategies on real earnings management. Using a sample of 6515 firm‐year observations from 22 countries spanning the 2011–2022 period, we show that companies that reduce their waste generation are less likely to engage in real earnings management, supporting the ethical theoretical perspective ...
