Self-propelled droplet-based electricity generation
Nanoscale, 2018The self-propelled motion of droplets driven by a surface wetting gradient leads to electricity generation without any external energy input.

Optically Addressed Droplet-Based Protein Assay
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2005We demonstrate a new method for performing protein assays with very small volumes ( approximately 1.7 muL to 14 pL). Using a laser to modify local surface energy, we manipulate, fuse, and mix droplets containing horseradish peroxidase and its substrates.

Microfluidic Droplet-Based Liquid−Liquid Extraction
Analytical Chemistry, 2008We study microfluidic systems in which mass exchanges take place between moving water droplets, formed on-chip, and an external phase (octanol). Here, no chemical reaction takes place, and the mass exchanges are driven by a contrast in chemical potential between the dispersed and continuous phases.

Droplet‐Based Self‐Propelled Miniboat
Advanced Functional Materials, 2020AbstractSelf‐propelled autonomous devices have huge application prospects in the field of environmental protection and energy. Nonetheless, the requirement of special chemicals or external electric and thermal energy limits their practical application.

Droplet-based photoresist deposition
Applied Physics Letters, 2006Photoresist droplets are ejected onto a wafer surface by an acoustic two-dimensional micromachined ejector array. The spread of single droplets on a silicon wafer surface at varying droplet speeds is studied. Series of photoresist droplets are printed periodically drop on demand on a silicon wafer surface and profiles of a single droplet and two ...

Demonstration of droplet-based microfluidics
Biomedical Topical Meeting, 2004We have used the thermal Marangoni effect to optically manipulate small droplets. We have observed droplet fusion and subsequent rapid mixing (

Chemically induced coalescence in droplet-based microfluidics
Lab on a Chip, 2015Controlled coalescence of droplet pairs in a microfluidic device is achieved by interfacial cohesion through the addition of an alcohol.

Droplet Based Cavities and Lasers
2009The self-organized and molecularly smooth surface on liquid microdroplets makes them attractive as optical cavities with very high quality factors. This chapter describes the basic theory of optical modes in spherical droplets. The mechanical properties including vibrational excitation are also described, and their implications for microdroplet ...
