A droplet-based electricity generator with high instantaneous power density

Nature, 2020
Extensive efforts have been made to harvest energy from water in the form of raindrops1-6, river and ocean waves7,8, tides9 and others10-17. However, achieving a high density of electrical power generation is challenging. Traditional hydraulic power generation mainly uses electromagnetic generators that are heavy, bulky, and become inefficient with low

Electrothermally Assisted Surface Charge Density Gradient Printing to Drive Droplet Transport

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2022
Surface 2019, surface charge density (SCD) gradient printing-driven droplet transport, has attracted considerable attention as a novel and effective approach, which adopts the water droplet impacting a nonwetting surface to create a reprintable SCD gradient pathway conveniently and realizes the high-velocity and long-distance transport of droplets.

Density measurements on levitated liquid metal droplets

International Journal of Thermophysics, 1996
Electromagnetic levitation is a useful tool for measuring thermophysical properties of high-temperature melts such as liquid metals. Due to its noncontact nature, the undercooled regime is also accessible. Density and thermal expansion of a levitated drop can be derived from volume measurements, if its mass is known.

Electrophoresis of a dielectric droplet with constant surface charge density

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2023
AbstractElectrophoresis of a dielectric fluid droplet with constant surface charge density is investigated theoretically in this study. A pseudo‐spectral method based on Chebyshev polynomials is adopted to solve the governing electrokinetic equations. It is found, among other things, that the larger the electrolyte strength in the ambient solution is ...

High-Density Droplet Microarray of Individually Addressable Electrochemical Cells

Analytical Chemistry, 2017
Microarray technology has shown great potential for various types of high-throughput screening applications. The main read-out methods of most microarray platforms, however, are based on optical techniques, limiting the scope of potential applications of such powerful screening technology.

Density-Functional Theory of Quantum Droplets

Chinese Physics Letters
Abstract In quantum droplets, the mean-field energy is comparable to the Lee-Huang-Yang (LHY) energy. In the Bogoliubov theory, the LHY energy of a quantum droplet has an imaginary part, which has been neglected in most studies for practical purposes.

Droplet density, droplet size, and wavelength effects in PDLC light scattering

Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals Science and Technology. Section A. Molecular Crystals and Liquid Crystals, 1995
Abstract The transmission properties of several scattering-type PDLC films are studied as a function of droplet density, droplet size, wavelength, and applied field. Experimental scattering cross sections for the nematic droplets are compared to theoretical cross sections calculated using the anomalous diffraction model for light scattering.

Density-wave-modulated crystallization in nanoscale silicon films and droplets

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2016
Free surfaces have been known to significantly influence the crystallization of tetrahedral liquids. However, a comprehensive understanding of the influence mechanism is still lacking at present. By employing molecular dynamics simulations, we find that the nucleation probability in nanoscale silicon films and droplets exhibits a ripple-like ...
