Acoustic manipulation of small droplets

Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, 2004
Surface acoustic waves are used to actuate and process smallest amounts of fluids on the planar surface of a piezoelectric chip. Chemical modification of the chip surface is employed to create virtual wells and tubes to confine the liquids. Lithographically modulated wetting properties of the surface define a fluidic network, in analogy to the wiring ...

On-chip manipulation of free droplets

Nature, 2003
Tiny free-floating drops can be driven across a liquid medium by an electric field. 'Lab-on-a-chip' systems resemble factories with permanently rigged pipes, but their prefabricated microchannels could have problems in delivering materials such as suspended particles, biological cells or proteins, which may adhere to the walls and clog the channels ...

Optothermal Manipulation of Liquid Droplets

Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics, 2021
Optothermal manipulation of liquid was studied with surfactant-free oil-in-water emulsions. Trapping, assembly, and fusion of pure liquid droplets in an aqueous medium were demonstrated by applying an optothermal stimulus and adjusting medium compositions.

Manipulation of microfluidic droplets by electrorheological fluid

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2009
AbstractMicrofluidics, especially droplet microfluidics, attracts more and more researchers from diverse fields, because it requires fewer materials and less time, produces less waste and has the potential of highly integrated and computer‐controlled reaction processes for chemistry and biology.

Droplet Formation and Manipulation

2020
In this chapter, the theory of wetting and droplet generation is analysed, including two-phase flow in microfluidic channels and electrowetting-on-dielectric. Their applications related to standard operations are presented and explained.

Manipulating Oil Droplets by Superamphiphobic Nozzle

Small, 2015
will be reduced and liquid retention on such nozzles is to be avoided, which is of great importance to the development of tiny oil droplets fabrication. We have prepared a superhydrophobic needle nozzle to manipulate water droplets. [ 13 ] However, most functional materials for fabrication of organic solar cells, organic fi eld effect transistors, and ...

Generation and manipulation of “smart” droplets

Soft Matter, 2009
We report the generation and manipulation of electrorheological (ER) droplets that exhibit the giant ER effect. The experiments were carried out on specially designed microfluidic chips, in which the ER droplets were generated by using the microfluidic flow-focusing approach.

On-demand, remote and lossless manipulation of biofluid droplets

Materials Horizons, 2022
To minimize exposure of healthcare workers and clinical laboratory personnel to infectious liquids, we designed biofluid manipulators for on-demand handling of liquid droplets, in-plane or out-of-plane, in a remote and lossless manner.

Thermal Manipulation of Water Droplets - A Path to Droplet Microfluidics

Frontiers in Optics 2011/Laser Science XXVII, 2011
Optical manipulation of water droplets in an oil matrix is important in the development of droplet microfluidics. In this report we demonstrate infrared laser based droplet manipulation using the thermal Marangoni effect and thermal ...

Charge-Powered Electrotaxis for Versatile Droplet Manipulation

ACS Nano, 2023
Taxis is an instinctive behavior of living organisms to external dangers or benefits. Here, we report a taxis-like behavior associated with liquid droplets on charged substrates in response to the external stimuli, referred to as droplet electrotaxis.
