Hierarchical microcavity topography for enhancement of water vapor condensation heat transfer by regulating droplet dynamics and droplet size distribution

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2021
Manipulating droplet dynamics is of great importance in condensation heat transfer enhancement. Cavity topography was believed to be able to regulate droplet merging and self-removal via Laplace force imbalance by the cavity wall and the effect of ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Evaluating the capabilities and uncertainties of droplet measurements for the fog droplet spectrometer (FM-100) [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2012
Droplet size spectra measurements are crucial to obtain a quantitative microphysical description of clouds and fog. However, cloud droplet size measurements are subject to various uncertainties.

Atomization Characteristics of a Hollow Cone Nozzle for Air-Assisted Variable-Rate Spraying

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
During variable-rate spraying in orchards, the atomization characteristics and distribution of droplets in and out of the target area can be affected by the sprayer pressure. In this study, a variable-rate spraying control system test bench was designed,

Size‐Dependent Phase Separation in Emulsion Droplets [PDF]

open access: yesChemPhysChem, 2018
AbstractPhase separation occurs in emulsion droplets containing poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA), glycerol, and ethanol to form a glycerol‐in‐PEGDA structure, and the phase separation process is found to depend on the droplet size. The mechanism of this size‐dependent phase separation is dependent on the droplet sizes changing the phase ...

The Effect of Oil Viscosity on Droplet Generation Rate and Droplet Size in a T-Junction Microfluidic Droplet Generator

open access: yesMicromachines, 2019
There have been growing interests in droplet-based microfluidics due to its capability to outperform conventional biological assays by providing various advantages, such as precise handling of liquid/cell samples, fast reaction time, and extremely high ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Localized droplet heating by hydrophobic pins: Influence of pin area and droplet size on heat transfer

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2021
Localized heating of hydrophobic droplet is considered and the effects of restricted area heating and droplet size on heat transfer are examined. Samples composing of vertical steel pins located in Perspex holders are designed and manufactured.

Metastable lifetimes in a kinetic Ising model: Dependence on field and system size

open access: yes, 1994
The lifetimes of metastable states in kinetic Ising ferromagnets are studied by droplet theory and Monte Carlo simulation, in order to determine their dependences on applied field and system size. For a wide range of fields, the dominant field dependence

The droplet size of emulsion adjuvants has significant impact on their potency, due to differences in immune cell-recruitment and -activation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Self-emulsification is routinely used for oral delivery of lipophilic drugs in vivo, with the emulsion forming in vivo. We modified this technique to prepare novel oil-in-water emulsions of varying droplet size and composition on bench to enable ...
