Flow Visualization and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Droplet Train Obliquely Impinging on a Moving Hot Solid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
The spray cooling of moving hot solids is widely performed in the steel industry. Understanding flow and heat transfer when droplets impinge on moving hot solids is important.

A new chemistry option in WRF-Chem v. 3.4 for the simulation of direct and indirect aerosol effects using VBS: evaluation against IMPACT-EUCAARI data [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2015
A parameterization for secondary organic aerosol (SOA) production based on the volatility basis set (VBS) approach has been coupled with microphysics and radiative schemes in the Weather Research and Forecasting model with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) model. The

Time Function DualPDA Study of Spray Growth and Droplet Size-Velocity Profiles of Chemically Modified Tapioca Starch

open access: yesAerosol and Air Quality Research, 2015
ABSTRACTThis study investigated the time based spray evolution of chemically modified tapioca starch through three full cone nozzles namely FC-2, FC-3 and FC-3.5. The objective was to study the effect of temperature, viscosity and nozzle orifice diameter on spatio-temporal droplet size-velocity profiles of the sprayed material. Owing to high viscosity,

Experimental and modelling investigation of the deformation, drag and break-up of drizzle droplets subjected to strong aerodynamics forces in relation to SLD aircraft icing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The distortion, drag and break-up of drizzle droplets subjected to strong aerodynamic forces was investigated to understand the pre-impact behaviour of droplets in aircraft icing from supercooled freezing drizzle.

Evaluation of StereoPIV Measurement of Droplet Velocity in an Effervescent Spray

open access: yes, 2010
Particle image velocimetry (PIV) is a well known technique for measuring the instantaneous velocity field of flows. However, error may be introduced when measuring the velocity field of sprays using this technique when the spray droplets are used as the

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
