Drop-on-Demand Drop Generators

2010
This chapter provides information on different types of drop-on-demand drop generators. It starts with thermal or bubble jets, in which a nucleation bubble is used to eject a droplet out of an orifice. This is followed by piezoelectric, pneumatic, microfluidic, electrohydrodynamics (EHD) and aerodynamic droplet generators.

Drop Freezing Through Drop Breakup

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1965
Abstract Evidence supporting the hypothesis that the first particles of ice in small cumulonimbus clouds way form as a result of a mechanism involving the violent breakup of drops is presented. The hypothesis is supported by observations that: (1) ice nucleation occurs at relatively warm temperatures if a supercooled drop is subjected to a shock wave; (
