RAB19, SERPINB9P1, and Pancreatitis in Patients Taking Azathioprine in Routine Clinical Practice: Genome and Transcriptome‐Wide Association Studies

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Azathioprine is used to treat several inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. However, its use is limited by serious adverse events, including acute pancreatitis. Prior studies have found an association between the HLA region and thiopurine‐induced acute pancreatitis (TIAP); however, in clinical practice, many patients with pancreatitis do not meet this ...

Experimental and computational insights into the therapeutic mechanisms of resveratrol in a Drosophila α-synuclein model of Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesScientific Reports
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder driven by genetic predisposition and environmental exposure. Given its well-documented antioxidative and neuroprotective properties, resveratrol is increasingly being considered for ...

An analysis of contractile and protrusive cell behaviors at the superficial surface of the zebrafish neural plate

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The forces underlying convergence and internalization of the teleost neural plate remain unknown. To help understand this morphogenesis, we analyzed collective and individual cell behaviors at the superficial surface of the neural plate as internalization begins to form the neural keel in the hindbrain region of the zebrafish embryo.

Loss of the epithelial transcription factor grhl3 leads to variably penetrant developmental phenotypes in zebrafish

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Environmental influence is critical for embryogenesis but is significantly under‐appreciated under lab conditions, which are not typically designed to robustly test environmental variability. Here, we report environmental effects on the developmental phenotype of zebrafish lacking the transcription factor Grainyhead‐like 3 (grhl3 ...

β‐Catenin localization in the ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi suggests an ancestral role in cell adhesion and nuclear function

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The emergence of multicellularity in animals marks a pivotal evolutionary event, which was likely enabled by molecular innovations in the way cells adhere and communicate with one another. β‐Catenin is significant to this transition due to its dual role as both a structural component in the cadherin–catenin complex and as a ...

Protein turnover downstream of the Nipbl/CRL4 axis contributes to abnormal development in zebrafish embryos

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Mutations in cohesins cause cohesinopathies such as Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) and Roberts Syndrome (RBS). Prior findings demonstrate that Esco2 (a cohesin activator) and Smc3 (a core cohesin subunit) regulate the CRL4 E3 ubiquitin ligase. SMC3 mutations, however, account for a small percentage of CdLS.

Amnesiac (AMN) gene and cnc/Nrf2-redox responses in fruit fly model of memory impairment co-administered Solanum leaves and donepezil

open access: yesPharmacological Research - Modern Chinese Medicine
Background: Considering that Alzheimer disease (AD) is a disease of multiple etiological theories, there is a continuous quest for multitarget approach for its management. In view of this, combinatory approach using therapeutic drugs and functional foods
