Ecofriendly control of Drosophila suzukii via the photoinsecticide chlorophyllin

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Drosophila suzukii can be killed by feeding with sodium‐magnesium‐chlorophyllin and photoactivation with sunlight or LEDs. Chlorophyllin supplementation does not result in food aversion. The moribundity increases with the light‐ and chlorophyllin dose as well as time.

Developing heterospecific sterile insect technique for pest control: insights from the spotted wing fly Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Irradiated Drosophila melanogaster males successfully court and mate with D. suzukii females and significantly reduce numbers of D. suzukii offspring under different species ratios. Abstract BACKGROUND Reproductive interference (i.e. sexual interaction between males of one species and females of another species that reduce the fitness of one or both ...

Chemical analysis of Alliin-Rich Allium sativum (Garlic) extract and its safety evaluation in Drosophila melanogaster

open access: yesToxicology Reports
Garlic (Allium sativum) has been traditionally valued for its medicinal properties attributed to the presence of organosulfur compounds. Despite its benefits, concerns about herbal extract toxicity have arisen, necessitating safety assessment. This study

Microscope‐Free Analyte Detection Based on Fiber‐Optic Gliding Motility Assays

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Lab‐on‐fiber technology enables rapid, cost‐effective, and in situ analyte detection, addressing critical gaps in point‐of‐care diagnostics. This study presents a microscope‐free biosensor that utilizes motor‐protein‐driven microtubules on optical fibers to detect biomarkers like Creatine Kinase‐MB. By tracking gliding speed changes, it offers a novel,
