Accelerated Atmospheric to Hydrological Spread of Drought in the Yangtze River Basin under Climate

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Persistent droughts pose a threat to agricultural production, and the changing environment worsens the risk of drought exposure. Understanding the propagation of drought in changing environments and assessing possible impact factors can help in the early

Influence of Technological and Environmental Factors on the Major Ion Composition in Cooling Water Discharges of a Nuclear Power Plant

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Statistical modelling and grey water footprint analysis revealed how technological and environmental factors shape the major ion composition of cooling water discharges from a nuclear power plant. Findings highlight that while ion concentrations increase post‐discharge, they remain within regulatory limits, ensuring minimal ecological impact.

Snow drought propagation and its impacts on streamflow drought in the Alps

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Snow droughts, that is negative anomalies in snow water equivalent, impact society as well as natural ecosystems in winter and influence the hydrological cycle downstream in spring and summer. Thereby, pronounced snow drought conditions can lead to streamflow droughts, i.e., anomalously low discharges, during the following melt season.

Experimental Analysis of Fire Behavior in Pine Forests and Agricultural Fields: Large‐Scale Tests Conducted Within the European TREEADS Project

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Two large‐scale experiments investigated fire spread mechanisms in vegetation ground fires in a pine forest and an agricultural field within the European TREEADS project. The tests, conducted in Saxony‐Anhalt and Brandenburg, targeted regions with dry, sandy soils and extensive pine stands and aim to improve suppression strategies and wildfire

Development of a random-forest-copula-factorial analysis (RFCFA) method for predicting propagation between meteorological and hydrological drought

open access: yesNational Science Open
In the context of global climate warming, the propagation of meteorological drought (MD) may aggravate the devastating impact of hydrological drought (HD) on water security and sustainable development.

Climate Change Has Already Reshaped North American Forest Pest Dynamics: Insights From Multidecadal Process‐Based Modelling

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, EarlyView.
Climate change has rapidly expanded and shifted suitable climate conditions for eight major forest pests across North America, especially toward northern and higher elevation areas. Host exposure and overlap among pests are increasing, raising ecological and economic risks, and signaling accelerating future impacts under continued warming.

Drought propagation in high-latitude catchments: insights from a 60-year analysis using standardized indices [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Droughts, traditionally less associated with high-latitude regions, are emerging as significant challenges due to changing climatic conditions. Recent severe droughts in Europe have exposed the vulnerability of northern catchments, where shifts in ...
