Integrating Dense Genotyping with High‐Throughput Phenotyping Empowers the Genetic Dissection of Berry Quality and Resilience Traits in Grapevine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Researchers develop advanced tools to study grapevine traits like berry quality and stress resilience. A 200K SNP array and high‐throughput phenotyping enable the identification of loci linked to berry shape, sugar content, acidity, and cold tolerance. Functional validation of genes such as NAC08 reveals roles in cold tolerance.

Retracted: Can the chemical industry solve the climate change? On the role of human energy production, renewable energies, and the potential of chemistry as a solution provider

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView., 2023
Let us consider an alternative perspective on climate change: The sum of solar radiation and heat generated by human activity result in a net energy input of 1.96 times that of the Sun on the Earth's surface. The expanding global population is expected to exacerbate this issue. Potential solutions are proposed, including replacement and heat recycling.

Post-drought decline of the Amazon carbon sink [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Amazon forests have experienced frequent and severe droughts in the past two decades. However, little is known about the large-scale legacy of droughts on carbon stocks and dynamics of forests.

Revisiting the recent European droughts from a long-term perspective

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Early 21st-century droughts in Europe have been broadly regarded as exceptionally severe, substantially affecting a wide range of socio-economic sectors.

Tree height and leaf drought tolerance traits shape growth responses across droughts in a temperate broadleaf forest.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2020
As climate change drives increased drought in many forested regions, mechanistic understanding of the factors conferring drought tolerance in trees is increasingly important.

High‐Throughput Fluorescence Screening Enables Globally Consistent Identification of ABA Signaling Modulators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper establishes a global high‐throughput fluorescence screening (GhitFluors) platform to efficiently identify ABA signaling modulators. It effectively identifies diopyridin, a regulator with strong binding affinity to PYR1, and more than 80% inhibitory activity against HAB1, which is equivalent to ABA.

A review of the processes and effects of droughts and summer floods in rivers and threats due to climate change on current adaptive strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Europe is expected to experience a greater frequency of floods and droughts as precipitation and evapotranspiration patterns are modified by climate change in future.

Ethylene‐Activated E3 Ubiquitin Ligase MdEAEL1 Promotes Apple Fruit Softening by Facilitating the Dissociation of Transcriptional Repressor Complexes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ethylene‐activated MdEAEL1 mediates the disassembly of the MdZFP3‐MdTPL4‐MdHDA19 transcriptional repression complex, upregulating the histone acetylation levels in the promoter regions of cell wall degradation‐related genes, consequently promoting softening during storage.

Global Patterns of Crop Production Losses Associated with Droughts from 1983 to 2009

open access: yesJournal of Applied Meteorology and Climatology, 2019
Droughts represent an important type of climate extreme that reduces crop production and food security. Although this fact is well known, the global geographic pattern of drought-driven reductions in crop production is poorly characterized.
