2012The ongoing war on drugs is far from being effective in reducing either the demand or supply side of the market. As the costs of enforcing the drug laws are very high, the global community should consider the feasibility of prohibition and the real results that have been achieved so far.

Recent developments in alcoholism : an official publication of the American Medical Society on Alcoholism, the Research Society on Alcoholism, and the National Council on Alcoholism, 1992The "war against drugs," and calls for increasing restrictions on the availability of alcoholic beverages, reflect a resurgence in the popularity of mandated formal controls and suspicion of informal controls. A small, but increasing countercurrent recommends various forms of liberalization of access to alcohol and drugs.
