Identification of New Drug Targets in Multi-Drug Resistant Bacterial Infections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Abstract : We are combining two parallel efforts to explore new targets and pathways in A. baumannii. We hypothesize that two proteins involved in aromatic amino acid and metabolite biosynthesis are essential and are valid targets for development of inhibitors as potential antibiotics.

Profiling and tandem mass spectrometry analysis of aminoacylated phospholipids in Bacillus subtilis  [version 2; referees: 1 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2016
Cationic modulation of the dominantly negative electrostatic structure of phospholipids plays an important role in bacterial response to changes in the environment.

A Sustainable Biotechnology Approach for Mineral Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Silver‑binding peptides are first identified through phage‐display screening, and then engineered into multifunctional and responsive peptides or proteins. These tailored biomolecules can selectively capture and aggregate silver particles or ions from complex mixtures, enabling rapid and efficient silver separation and recovery.

Biomaterials-based phototherapy for bacterial infections

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
Bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance are global health problems, and current treatments for bacterial infections still rely on the use of antibiotics.

Alanylated lipoteichoic acid primer in Bacillus subtilis [version 2; referees: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2016
Lipoteichoic acid is a major lipid-anchored polymer in Gram-positive bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis. This polymer typically consists of repeating phosphate-containing units and therefore has a predominant negative charge.

Supramolecular Zwitterionic Hydrogels for Information Encryption, Soft Electronics and Energy Storage at Icy Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of ACHPES‐based hydrogels are developed and realizing multiple functions like anti‐fouling properties, alkali‐induced color/fluorescence‐changing ability and strain sensing. Furthermore, the hydrogels show excellent anti‐freezing performance, whose optical, mechanical and electrical properties remain stable at −47.3 °C.

Microbubble‐Controlled Delivery of Biofilm‐Targeting Nanoparticles to Treat MRSA Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, an effective strategy using microbubble (MB)‐controlled delivery of biofilm‐targeting nanoparticles (BTNs) for removal and therapy of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) biofilm infections is introduced. In vivo delivery of MB with BTN is demonstrated to silence key bacterial genes involved in biofilm formation (icaA), bacterial ...

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...
