ACT Now or Later: The Economics of Malaria Resistance [PDF]

open access: yes
In the past, malaria control efforts in sub-Saharan Africa have relied on a combination of vector control and effective treatment using chloroquine. With increasing resistance to chloroquine, attention has now turned to alternative treatment strategies ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...

Yin Yang 1 (YY1) as a Central Node in Drug Resistance Pathways: Potential for Combination Strategies in Cancer Therapy

open access: yesBiomolecules
Tumor drug resistance, a major cause of treatment failure, involves complex multi-gene networks, remodeling of signaling pathways, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created

Prevalence of Multiple Antibiotic Resistance Among Salmonella Isolates from Clinical Samples in Dhaka, Bangladesh

open access: yesOman Medical Journal
Objectives: Antibiotic resistance in clinical isolates is often correlated to poor disease management or prolonged hospitalization. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella isolates in clinical samples collected

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Differential gene expression analysis related to extracellular matrix components in drug-resistant RPMI-8226 cell line

open access: yes, 2012
Drug resistance remains a major obstacle to the successful use of chemotherapeutic drugs for many types of cancers including multiple myeloma. It is becoming increasingly apparent that tumor microenvironment could provide a shelter to malignant plasma ...
