The interaction index: a measure of drug synergism
Pain, 2002Two drugs used in combination may produce enhanced or reduced effects. The degree of enhancement or reduction is measured from the interaction index (gamma), a quantity that indicates the changed potency of the combination. The index is therefore a quantitative marker for the drug combination and effect metric used.

A Test for Synergism Between Two Drugs
Applied Statistics, 1976A likelihood ratio test is devised to detect the presence of synergism between two drugs which have similar actions. An example is given.

Synergism in Drug Treatment of Familial Hypercholesterolemia
1980The monogenic disorder familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is associated with a high risk of premature coronary arteriosclerosis, largely attributable to a 2-3 fold increase in levels of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in serum. Heretofore, no regimen of drug therapy or surgical intervention has been reported which is capable of lowering levels of low ...

Informatics of Drug Synergism in Naturally Occurring Anticancer Agents
Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery, 2011Cancer is a multi-factorial disease resulting in uncontrolled division of body cells, with difficult and complex suppression. The main treatment strategy for this disease depends on killing of tumor cells that usually exist in the proximity of normal body cells. During the course of treatment, the healthy cells should not be affected by the toxic doses

Studies on the synergism of some hypotensive drugs with ethanol.
Polish journal of pharmacology and pharmacy, 1976Synergism of some hypotensive drugs with ethanol was studied for its influence on the central nervous system. A very strong central action of the drugs and ethanol administered simultaneously in subthreshold doses was observed. Intensity of synergism was calculated by comparing the results with the effective doses of each drug administered seperately.

Search for a Synergism with Different Drugs in the Field of Antiviral Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy, 1971Additional findings about the synergism between Rec. 15/0209 and Amantadine are reported. While it is clearly demonstrable in embryonated and de-embryonated chicken eggs by measuring both virus titer and virus RNA synthesis of CAM suspensions, the results are much less constant in the embryonated eggs by measuring HA in the allantoic fluids and over ...

Quantitative Aspects of Drug Antagonism and of Drug Synergism
1937It was shown in the last chapter that, in populations of animals, changes in sensitivity to drugs can be produced by a wide variety of causes, and that in some cases variations in sensitivity occur for which the causes are unknown. It seems justifiable to assume that if the condition of organisms is altered by the administration of one drug, then this ...

Synergism of Three Antimicrobial Drugs
Nature, 1966COMBINED therapy with two or more antibacterial drugs may be useful in the treatment of an individual case, and in discouraging the development of resistance1. A formula was previously presented which could be used in evaluating the combined effect of two drugs2.

THE SYNERGISM OF PHENOBARBITAL, DILANTIN SODIUM AND OTHER DRUGS
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1940Pharmacologically the history of the treatment of epilepsy may be divided into several epochs. The first, which was inaugurated in 1853, lasted until the introduction of phenobarbital and may be called the era of the bromide treatment. Bromides undoubtedly reduced the epileptic attacks but on the whole did not represent a very efficient form of therapy,

Synergizing drug repurposing and target identification for neurodegenerative diseases
Despite dedicated research efforts, the absence of disease-curing remedies for neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs) continues to jeopardize human society and stands as a challenge. Drug repurposing is an attempt to find new functionality of existing drugs and take it as an opportunity to discourse the clinically unmet need to treat neurodegeneration ...Mehar, Sahu +6 more
