On the history of the dry friction law
Mechanics of Solids, 2013We discuss the role played by Amontons, Coulomb, Leonardo daVinci,Morin, and Euler in the discovery of the dry friction law. In particular, reference is given to Euler’s 1748 paper, where an exhaustive statement of the dry friction law was given 37 years before Coulomb’s main publications.

Scaling laws for radio frequency glow discharges for dry etching
Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1990Parametric studies of parallel plate radio frequency (rf) glow discharges have been performed using an efficient numerical scheme developed for solving fluid model representations of glow discharges. Simple scaling laws for internal discharge parameters have been extracted from detailed simulations of discharges in Ar and SF6.

Laws of the kinetics of drying humid materials
Journal of engineering physics, 1970A hypothesis concerning the kinetics of mass exchange during drying is considered. Methods of generalizing the drying curves and drying-rate curves are proposed, and methods of calculating the drying rates and the drying times are outlined. Experimental relationships which describe the heat-exchange kinetics in the case of conductive drying are stated.

Similitude Law for the Creep-Adhesion Function in Dry Contact
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1979This paper describes an experimental study on the dry friction-creep phenomenon. The study has been carried out on a test-rig. The simulated wheel has an elliptical area of contact similar to the actual locomotive wheel and is made of a 1070 plain carbon steel. The testing was conducted with variable contact stresses up to approximately 200,000 psi and

The second-law optimal operation of a paper drying machine
Chemical Engineering Science, 2006Paper drying is an exergy costly operation, so also a few percent saving may be of importance. The entropy production for the paper drying process was therefore optimised for a conventional multi-cylinder drying machine, the PM2 newsprint machine at Norske Skog ASA in Skogn, Norway.

The Coarse and Dry Study of the Law
2019The first chapter examines the early lives and education of Jefferson and Madison. Jefferson attended the College of William and Mary and studied law under George Wythe. He was also influenced by the writings of John Locke, Obidiah Hulme, Lord Bolingbroke, Lord Shaftesbury, Francis Hutcheson, and Lord Kames, and developed an essentially optimistic view

Dry Laws and Homicides: Evidence from the São Paulo Metropolitan Area
The Economic Journal, 2009We use a difference-in-differences design to estimate the causal impact of the adoption of dry laws in the Sao Paulo Metropolitan Area (SPMA) on violent behaviour. Dry laws cause a 10% reduction in homicides. Similar impacts were found on battery and deaths by car accidents.

Power-law decay of conductance during the drying of latex paints
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1989The drying of latex paint films in a natural environment has been followed by measurements of the AC conductance of the films. Three stages in the drying have been observed with the first two being related to evaporation of water from the bulk of the film, in accordance with mechanical measurements. The third and final stage has been characterised by a

Scaling laws applicable to some on-floor duct drying systems
Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1971Using a non-linear pressure velocity relation for the flow in a porous medium and the equations describing the pressure field, a set of scaling laws have been derived. These relate the performance of geometrically similar two-dimensional configurations of on-floor duct drying and aeration systems.
