Simulations of collision times in gravity driven granular flow
We use simulations to investigate collision time distributions as one approaches the static limit of steady-state flow of dry granular matter. The collision times fall in a power-law distribution with an exponent dictated by whether the grains are ...

Similarity solutions for slender dry patches with thermocapillarity [PDF]
We use the lubrication approximation to investigate slender dry patches in an infinitely wide film of viscous fluid flowing steadily on an inclined plane that is either heated or cooled relative to the surrounding atmosphere.

Heat and mass transfer law during microwave vacuum drying of rice
In order to obtain the microwave vacuum drying characteristics of rice and the change in law of temperature and humidity, the mechanism of water diffusion and migration in the drying process was analyzed based on the multiphase flow in porous media, the change model of moisture content was established, and the microwave heating process coupled with ...

Projectile-shape dependence of impact craters in loose granular media
We report on the penetration of cylindrical projectiles dropped from rest into a dry, noncohesive granular medium. The cylinder length, diameter, density, and tip shape are all explicitly varied.

What Do Large Language Models Know About Materials?
If large language models (LLMs) are to be used inside the material discovery and engineering process, they must be benchmarked for the accurateness of intrinsic material knowledge. The current work introduces 1) a reasoning process through the processing–structure–property–performance chain and 2) a tool for benchmarking knowledge of LLMs concerning ...

Effects of Carbon Nanoparticles on Triboelectro‐Induced Surface Defects
Carbon nanoparticles added to grease modify the electrocontact behavior. The synergy of particle concentration and electric current dominates the surface damage of metals in contact. Electrical surface damage caused by current leakage is a critical challenge in high‐performance applications such as electric vehicle (EV) drivetrains and wind turbine ...
