How do drying and rewetting events affect nutrient fluxes and bacteria dynamics in subtropical estuarine sediments? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Drying and rewetting occur frequently in coastal marsh sediments due to oscillations of rising and falling tides, and episodic droughts and floods. Similarly, drying events also occur within freshwater systems due to changing precipitation patterns ...

Evaluate five different diagnostic tests for dry mouth assessment in geriatric residents in long-term institutions in Taiwan

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2019
Background Residents in long-term care (LTC) institutions require care plans to effectively resolve dry mouth. Simple and easily comprehensible dry mouth indices must be developed to assist care professionals in determining dry mouth among residents ...

Bioaccumulation surveillance in Milford Haven Waterway [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Biomonitoring of contaminants (metals, organotins, PAHs, PCBs) was carried out along the Milford Haven Waterway (MHW) and at a reference site in the Tywi Estuary during 2007-2008. The species used as bioindicators encompass a variety of uptake routes -

Evaluation of Efficacy of an Herbal Compound on Dry Mouth in Patients With Head and Neck Cancers

open access: yesJournal of Evidence-Based Complementary & Alternative Medicine, 2016
Dry mouth is a common complication of radiotherapy for head and neck cancers. This study compared the efficacy of an herbal compound containing Malva sylvestris and Alcea digitata (Boiss) with artificial saliva (Hypozalix) for improving the symptoms of ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Management Strategies for Patients with Xerostomia (Dry Mouth). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
PosterObjective: To discuss management strategies for patients presenting in the clinical setting with xerostomia (dry mouth). Xerostomia is a multifactorial problem and many times it is disabling for the individual and challenging to manage.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

A randomised controlled pilot trial of two interventions to manage dry mouth in pre-operative elective surgical patients

open access: yesPilot and Feasibility Studies, 2020
Background Dry mouth is a common perioperative patient complaint. There are a number of treatments used for dry mouth in other settings which are effective. None have been tested previously in the perioperative setting. Interventions to Manage Dry mouth (
