Diffusion coefficients for predicting rice drying behaviour
Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1982Abstract Recent efforts to characterize moisture diffusion in rice are summarized. New equations for temperature dependent liquid diffusion coefficients for rough and brown rice are presented. Result sindicate that the resistance to moisture movement is greater in rough rice than in brown rice.

Accurate measurement of dry friction coefficient using reciprocating tribometer
2018 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC), 2018A tribological test is adopted to estimate the kinetic friction coefficient of the material of interest according to the ASTM standard. Typically a number of replicate is necessary to take into account the observed casual variability of the measurand as well as a post-processing data treatment is recommended.

Mass Transfer Coefficients and Drying Rates in Through Air Drying: Part II
Drying Technology, 2009In this study experimental results and analysis are given of convective heat and mass transfer in the drying of tissue and towel products (25 and 50 g/m2 basis weight) under commercially realistic conditions under through flow. Parameter effects on drying rate include process variables such as refining, shaping, commercial forming, initial moisture ...

Heat transfer coefficients for drying in pulsating flows
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 1998Pulsating flows generated by a Rijke type combustor are studied for drying of grains and food particles. It is assumed that the velocity fluctuations are the main factor in the enhancement of the drying process. The heat transfer coefficients for drying in vibrating beds are utilized to estimate the heat transfer coefficients of fixed beds in pulsating

This study uses a heat flux sensor and temperature probes to directly measure vial heat transfer coefficients (Kv) during primary and secondary drying stages of lyophilization. It is observed that Kv is 40-80% smaller during secondary drying than primary drying, and this value exhibits a weaker dependence on chamber pressure than in primary drying ...

Pressure Coefficient in Dam-Break Flows of Dry Granular Matter
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2013AbstractThe propagation of dry granular flows, such as rock and snow avalanches, can be described by depth-averaged models. Different from classical shallow-water equations, these models take into account the anisotropy of normal stresses inside the flowing pile through using an earth pressure coefficient in the pressure term.

Evaluation of convective heat transfer coefficient in crop drying under open sun drying conditions
Energy Conversion and Management, 2001Abstract In this paper, an attempt has been made to evaluate the convective heat transfer coefficient operating in crop drying in open sun drying conditions (natural convection). Values of the constants, C and n were obtained by linear regression analysis from experimental data obtained for six crops, namely green chillies, green peas, Kabuli ...

Water diffusion coefficient in clay material from drying data
Desalination, 2005In this paper we present an experimental investigation in the drying of clay material. Three type of purified clay are used in this study. We work under different experimental conditions changing the temperature or the relative humidity of the drying air. Drying kinetics and diffusion coefficient are presented and commented on.

Drying of Latex Backcoated Acrylic Fabrics: Heat Transfer Coefficients
Textile Research Journal, 1988Drying and curing tests were performed in a laboratory scale dryer on dyed tufted acrylic fabrics and the latex adhesive backcoating to obtain heat transfer coefficients as a function of the mass velocity of air flowing through the fabric. Treating the fabric as a packed bed of cylindrically shaped fibers, equations were developed making it possible ...
