In order to predict the rate at which moisture leaves a rough-sawn board, the drying kinetics of the lumber need to be considered. The drying of wood involves the movement of water molecules, either as vapour or liquid (fluids), through a complex biological structure, with changes in phase such as thawing and evaporation.

Applied Surface Science, 1989Abstract The kinetics of dry oxidation of silicon is modeled in terms of ionic growth retarded by internal fields. It is described in terms of the classical theory of Wagner for the oxidation of metals. First it is shown that the growth curves for dry oxidation follow a power law rather than a linear-parabolic law.
