Soil crusting in Western Samoa. Part II - Experimental investigation of factors influencing crust formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
The Alafua Penetrometer was used to measure relative differences in soil crust strength. Crust strength and thickness were shown to increase with increases in rainfall amount, drying time, droplet size, kinetic energy and soil clay and silt content.

Vertical drying of a suspension of sticks: Monte Carlo simulation for continuous two-dimensional problem

open access: yes, 2017
The vertical drying of a two dimensional colloidal film containing zero-thickness sticks (lines) was studied by means of kinetic Monte Carlo (MC) simulations.

Dry-heat destruction of lipopolysaccharide: dry-heat destruction kinetics [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1978
Dry-heat destruction kinetics of lipopolysaccharides from Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescens, and Salmonella typhosa at 170 to 250 degrees C are described. The destruction rate seems to follow the second order and can be linearized by the equation, log y = a + b . -10cx. Because c is the slope, 1/c = D3.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Numerical Analysis and Preliminary Experiment of a Solar Assisted Heat Pump Drying System for Chinese Wolfberry

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
The present work investigated a solar assisted heat pump system for drying Chinese wolfberry. The kinetic characteristic was firstly analyzed through a series of lab experiments.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Investigation of the possibilities for energy economy in continuous dryers through reduction of the drying time [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
The possibility for a reduction of the time duration of an industrial drying of ceramic bricks are analysed based on numerical simulation of the transient coupled mass transfer and mechanical processes in the material.

DRYING KINETICS OF APRICOTS KERNELS

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Science (Chişinău), 2018
In this paper, we proposed convective and combined methods for drying wet kernels of apricot stones. Kernels of apricot stones are a very ambiguous food product, during their heat treatment in them occurs not only the loss of mass due to the removal of moisture, but also the loss of mass due to biochemical changes occurring at high temperatures. It was

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
