Abstract This book discusses drywood termites. The characteristics of this group are based on the alates (winged primary reproductives) and includes the presence of ocelli, a left mandible with two marginal teeth, 2-segmented cerci, antennae with 10 to 24 segments, and lack of a fontanelle.

Thermal tolerance of an invasive drywood termite, Cryptotermes brevis (Blattodea: Kalotermitidae)
Journal of Thermal Biology, 2022West Indian drywood termites (Cryptotermes brevis, Blattodea: Kalotermitidae) are an important invasive termite in many countries including Australia where they are spreading across two eastern states. Fumigation is often used to eliminate infestations, but it is costly, has negative environmental effects and does not prevent reinfestation.

Unique zinc mass in mandibles separates drywood termites from other groups of termites
Naturwissenschaften, 2008Previously, the presence of metals in arthropod mandibles has been linked with harder cuticle, and in termites, a 20% increase in hardness has been found for mandibles containing major quantities of zinc. The current study utilises electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis to assess incidence and abundance of metals in all extant ...

Evaluation of Insecticides for Western Drywood Termite Control, 1978
Insecticide and Acaricide Tests, 1979Abstract Eight insecticides were tested for effectiveness against field populations of Incisitermesminor collected from native woods and maintained in the laboratory. Whatman No. 1 filter paper, cut into discs (72 cm2) and set into 9.7 cm I.D. uncovered petri dish tops, were treated with insecticide.

Drywood Termites (Kalotermitidae)
2020The term drywood termites was introduced for those species nesting and feeding in wood with low or no moisture. The term is used as a synonym for the family Kalotermitidae, although not all kalotermitids exhibit the same substrate prefer- ence. There are, in fact, many species living in rotten or damp wood logs (such as Neotermes).

Impact of drywood termites in the Islands of Azores
IABSE Symposium, Lisbon 2005: Structures and Extreme Events, 2005Summary The detection in 2002 of drywood termites in the islands of Azores has became an urgent issue to be coped with given the fast degradation that structural elements can show after a short period of installation of the colony. In the United States control costs associated with drywood termite degradation are estimated to exceed 300 million dollars
