Regional conditions during the 25 October 1986 FIRE cirrus/altocumulus case study [PDF]

open access: yes
The regional cloud and meteorological conditions are described for this case using satellite imagery (GOES), dual polarization lidar data, NWS radar, NMC analyses, rawinsonde data including special soundings, and analyzed vertical motions.

Mesh antennas for dual polarization

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2001
Three mesh antennas, all having an extremely small antenna height of approximately 0.06 wavelength above a ground plane, are presented. First, a mesh antenna excited with a balanced feed is analyzed. It is revealed that the mesh antenna radiates a linearly polarized wave with no cross-polarization component in the principal planes.

Intermolecular Interactions as Driving Force of Increasing Multiphoton Absorption in a Perylene Diimide‐Based Coordination Polymer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers the unexplored role of intermolecular interactions in multiphoton absorption in coordination polymers. By analyzing [Zn2tpda(DMA)2(DMF)0.3], it shows how the electronic coupling of the chromophores and confinement in the MOF enhance two‐and three‐photon absorption.

Dual-Polarization Radar Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE): Principles, Operations, and Challenges

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) is one of the primary applications of weather radar. Over the last several decades, dual-polarization radars have significantly improved QPE accuracy by providing additional observational variables that offer ...

First redshift determination of an optically/UV faint submillimeter galaxy using CO emission lines

open access: yes, 2009
We report the redshift of a distant, highly obscured submm galaxy (SMG), based entirely on the detection of its CO line emission. We have used the newly commissioned Eight-MIxer Receiver (EMIR) at the IRAM 30m telescope, with its 8 GHz of instantaneous ...

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Glacier bed surveying with helicopter-borne dual-polarization ground-penetrating radar

open access: yes, 2019
Traditionally, helicopter-borne ground-penetrating radar (GPR) systems are operated with a single pair of bistatic dipole antennas to measure the thickness of glaciers.

Rational Fine‐Tuning of MOF Pore Metrics: Enhanced SO2 Capture and Sensing with Optimal Multi‐Site Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pore tuning strategy to amplify the multi‐site MOF‐SO2 interactions is proposed to achieve an enhanced trace SO2 capture and chemiresistive sensing in highly stable isostructural DMOFs by annelating benzene rings. This work provides a facile strategy to achieve tailor‐made stable MOF materials for specific multifunctional applications.
