Dual Task Performance in HIV-1 Infection

Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology, 2000
Fifty HIV-infected individuals and 20 uninfected controls participated in an investigation of dual task performance in HIV-1 infection. Participants first engaged in a simple auditory reaction time (RT) task followed by a visual choice RT task (single task condition), and then they simultaneously engaged in both tasks (dual task condition).

Dual-task performance in depressed geriatric patients

Psychiatry Research, 2001
Older patients suffering from a major depression are often impaired on tasks that require executive control processes. However, a wide variety of executive abilities exist in humans, and it is not clear that all are impaired in depression or that such impairments persist beyond remission of the depression.

Attention and timing: dual-task performance in pigeons

Behavioural Processes, 1999
Pigeons were exposed to an analog of a 'dual-task' procedure used to test attentional models of timing in humans. After separate training on an auditory duration discrimination and on a variable ratio (VR) schedule, VR episodes lasting for 5 s were superimposed on the stimuli to be timed, either early (E) or late (L) during the trial.

Dual-task performance in demented and nondemented elderly

Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology, 1991
The present study examined the ability of demented and nondemented elderly subjects to divide their attention between recalling digits and judging the similarity of pairs of letters. Both groups showed substantial decrements in digit recall following distraction by letter matching.

The Dynamics of P300 during Dual-Task Performance

1980
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the dynamics of p300 during dual-task performance. When a subject is presented with two stimuli in a Bernoulli sequence and is instructed to count one of the stimuli, a P300 component will be elicited. The amplitude of the P300 will be inversely proportional to the subjective probability of the stimulus.

Concussion recovery: dual-task performance and prioritization

The Physician and Sportsmedicine
The objective of this study was to assess a clinically feasible DT protocol consisting of the Balance Error Scoring System (BESS) and Standard Assessment of Concussion (SAC) administered simultaneously during and beyond clinically determined concussion recovery. We recruited 28 collegiate student-athletes (14 post-concussion, 14 control) who performed a

Evaluation of dual-task performance in ballet dancers

Wiener klinische Wochenschrift
This study aimed to compare the dual-task performances of ballet dancers who use attention, concentration and balance skills in combination during both their training and stage performances and individuals who do not have a dance background and are not engaged in active sports. In the ballet dancers group (n = 30) and control (n = 30) group, the maximum

Strategic Adaptation to Performance Objectives in a Dual‐Task Setting

Cognitive Science, 2010
AbstractHow do people interleave attention when multitasking? One dominant account is that the completion of a subtask serves as a cue to switch tasks. But what happens if switching solely at subtask boundaries led to poor performance? We report a study in which participants manually dialed a UK‐style telephone number while driving a simulated vehicle.

The Effects of Carbon Monoxide on Dual-Task Performance

Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 1979
Thirty adult, nonsmokers were exposed for four hours to one of three concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO) 5 ppm, 35 ppm, and 70 ppm to produce blood levels of either 1%, 3%, or 5% carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) after the third hour of exposure. Performance in the double blind study was assessed by a tracking task paired with a peripheral monitoring task ...

Attention Sharing in the Performance of a Dynamic Dual Task

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 1973
In an investigation of attention sharing between two continuous tasks with independent input-output modes, 11 subjects were tested using a zero-order compensatory control task with three levels of difficulty (input bandwidth) for each subject. On half of the trials, the subjects simultaneously performed a secondary task of verbally shadowing a random ...
