Online codes for analog signals

open access: yes, 2019
This paper revisits a classical scenario in communication theory: a waveform sampled at regular intervals is to be encoded so as to minimize distortion in its reconstruction, despite noise. This transformation must be online (causal), to enable real-time

Evaluating the Rheological Controls on Topography Development During Craton Stabilization: Objective Approaches to Comparing Geodynamic Models

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 129, Issue 4, April 2024.
Abstract Surface topography is an important yet largely neglected aspect of the early evolution of cratons. The lateral accretion of cratonic nuclei inevitably forms orogenic belts that subsequently provide a sediment source for large, resource‐rich intracratonic basins, but to date, geodynamic models have focused exclusively on lithospheric root ...

Varieties of \u3cem\u3eP\u3c/em\u3e-Restriction Semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The restriction semigroups, in both their one-sided and two-sided versions, have arisen in various fashions, meriting study for their own sake. From one historical perspective, as “weakly E-ample” semigroups, the definition revolves around a “designated ...

Stable Camera Motion Estimation Using Convex Programming

open access: yes, 2015
We study the inverse problem of estimating n locations $t_1, ..., t_n$ (up to global scale, translation and negation) in $R^d$ from noisy measurements of a subset of the (unsigned) pairwise lines that connect them, that is, from noisy measurements of ...

Significant Midlatitude Bubble‐Like Ionospheric Super‐Depletion Structure (BLISS) and Dynamic Variation of Storm‐Enhanced Density Plume During the 23 April 2023 Geomagnetic Storm

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 22, Issue 3, March 2024.
Abstract This paper investigates the midlatitude ionospheric disturbances over the American/Atlantic longitude sector during an intense geomagnetic storm on 23 April 2023. The study utilized a combination of ground‐based observations (Global Navigation Satellite System total electron content and ionosonde) along with measurements from multiple ...

The Semigroups B\u3csub\u3e2\u3c/sub\u3e and B\u3csub\u3e0\u3c/sub\u3e are Inherently Nonfinitely Based, as Restriction Semigroups [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The five-element Brandt semigroup B2 and its four-element subsemigroup B0, obtained by omitting one nonidempotent, have played key roles in the study of varieties of semigroups.

Decentralized Minimum-Cost Repair for Distributed Storage Systems

open access: yes, 2013
There have been emerging lots of applications for distributed storage systems e.g., those in wireless sensor networks or cloud storage. Since storage nodes in wireless sensor networks have limited battery, it is valuable to find a repair scheme with ...

Multiple Solutions of a Nonlocal Problem with Nonlinear Boundary Conditions

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
In this article, we consider a class of nonlocal p(x)‐Laplace equations with nonlinear boundary conditions. When the nonlinear boundary involves critical exponents, using the concentration compactness principle, mountain pass lemma, and fountain theorem, we can prove the existence and multiplicity of solutions.

Multiple Solutions for Nonlocal Fourth-Order Equation with Concave–Convex Nonlinearities

open access: yesMathematics
This paper is devoted to a class of general nonlocal fourth-order elliptic equation with concave–convex nonlinearities. First, using the Z2-mountain pass theorem in critical point theory, we obtain the existence of infinitely many large energy solutions.

Idempotents and one-sided units in infinite partial Brauer monoids

open access: yes, 2019
We study monoids generated by various combinations of idempotents and one- or two-sided units of an infinite partial Brauer monoid. This yields a total of eight such monoids, each with a natural characterisation in terms of relationships between ...
