Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, 1966
The paper describes some aspects of the findings of an investigation which was initiated mainly to obtain a better understanding of the phenomenon of knock under dual-fuel operation and to determine the effect of various operating parameters on the knock-free performance limits and the nature of these limits. Some common gaseous fuels such as methane,

Dual-Fuel Diesel Engine Using Butane
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1992<div class="htmlview paragraph">The authors tried to use LP gas, mainly butane, as the main fuel of diesel engines to reduce soot and to maintain high thermal efficiency. LP gas was injected in the direction of the intake valve directly as a spray to prevent knocking and to preserve high charging efficiency.

Microprocessor Dual-Fuel Diesel Engine Control
Transactions of the ASAE, 1983ABSTRACT A microprocessor based control system was developed to control the rate of flow of alcohol supplied by an atomizing nozzle dual-fuel system. The control system, using engine speed hand control setting, actual engine speed and desired alcohol fuel percentage, controlled the flowrate of alcohol to maintain the same engine power output as would ...

Complete Vegetable Oil Fueled Dual Fuel Compression Ignition Engine
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001<div class="htmlview paragraph">Vegetable oils can be directly used in compression ignition engines without any modification. A dual fuel engine was run using vegetable oils as primary and pilot fuels. Small quantities of orange oil were inducted along with air and ignited after compression by a pilot spray of Jatropha oil.

Ignition of Diesel Pilot Fuel in Dual-Fuel Engines
Volume 1: Large Bore Engines; Fuels; Advanced Combustion, 2018Dual-Fuel (DF) engines offer great fuel flexibility combined with low emissions in gas mode. The main source of energy in this mode is provided by gaseous fuel, while the Diesel fuel acts only as an ignition source. For this reason, the reliable autoignition of the pilot fuel is of utmost importance for combustion in DF-engines.
