Obesity subtypes and longitudinal trajectories of function over 7‐years of follow‐up: data from the Multicenter Osteoarthritis Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Background Obesity, defined by BMI ≥30kg/m2, is a risk factor for functional limitations in people with knee osteoarthritis (OA). However, function varies among such individuals. Our objective was to evaluate the implications of obesity subtypes on longitudinal patterns of physical functioning in people with or at risk for knee OA.

Reduced polyethylene wear in dual mobility versus single mobility hip implants: Results from quantitative and qualitative scanning electron microscopy analysis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Orthopaedics
Purpose Dual mobility cup in total hip arthroplasties has gained popularity worldwide as it reduces instability providing greater range of motion. However, increased polyethylene wear remains debated.

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

The Relationship Between Physical Performance with Dual-task Performance in Geriatric Individuals

open access: yesTürk Osteoporoz Dergisi
Objective: Maintaining functional independence in older adults requires an intricate balance between physical and cognitive abilities. While physical performance is known to support overall health, its relationship with dual-task performance -an ...

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Differential Associations Between Distinct Components of Cognitive Function and Mobility: Implications for Understanding Aging, Turning and Dual-Task Walking

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2019
ObjectiveCognition and mobility are interrelated. However, this association can be impacted by the specific facets of cognition and mobility that are measured, and further by the different task conditions, e.g., single- versus dual-task walking, under ...

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Effects of dual task on functional mobility in individuals with Down syndrome: a case–control study

open access: yesBulletin of Faculty of Physical Therapy
Background Down syndrome (DS) is the most common genetic cause of intellectual and developmental disabilities and is often associated with mobility limitations. Dual-task activities, whether traditional (e.g., naming animals) or ecological (e.g., talking

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.
