An inverse model for locating skin tumours in 3D using the genetic algorithm with the Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
Here, the Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method is used to solve the 3D Pennes Bioheat Equation, which together with a Genetic Algorithm, produces an inverse model capable of obtaining the location and the size of a tumour, having as data input the ...

Mapping of Groundwater Salinity Using Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method in Nuq Region, Rafsanjan [PDF]

open access: yesآب و فاضلاب, 2015
In this study, a new numerical method based on Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method (DRBEM) is presented to interpolate scattered data. For this purpose, water samples were taken from 120 wells in Nuq region, Rafsanjan, for salinity measurements. The

Radial basis function approximation in the dual reciprocity method

open access: yesMathematical and Computer Modelling, 1994
The Poisson equation \(\Delta u= f\) is solved on a domain in the plane, and the method of solution is by a boundary integral equation. The source term \(f\) is taken into account by an approximation in terms of certain particular solutions. Specifically, an approximation \((*)\) \(f(P)\approx \sum_ j c_ j G(P,P_ j)\) is used, based on a collection of ...

Interferon beta drives therapy resistance in a patient‐derived model of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Interferon type 1 (IFN‐1) production and signaling is associated with the acquisition of therapy resistance, following chronic DNA damage, via Interferon‐related DNA damage resistance signature (IRDS) gene expression. An alternative, DNA damage‐independent role of sustained IFN‐1 mediated resistance was identified and characterized by the emergence of ...

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Trefftz- type FEM for solving orthotropic potential problems

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Solids and Structures
A simple Trefftz-type finite element method (TFEM) is proposed for solving certain potential problems in orthotropic media. The "body force", which is induced by internal sources or sinks, may produce domain integrals in the standard Trefftz finite ...

Boundary element formulation for dynamic analysis of inelastic structures

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2022
The boundary element formulation for dynamic analysis of inelastic two-dimensional structures subjected to stationary or transient inertial loads is presented. The problem is solved by using simultaneously the displacement and stress integral equations.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
