Optimality Conditions and Duality Theory

2019
This chapter studies optimization problems with constraints under special consideration of necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality of solution points. Although the theory to be presented is not immediately concerned with computational aspects of solution techniques, it nevertheless represents the foundation for the development of algorithms ...

Generalized fractional programming: Optimality and duality theory

Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1990
The generalized fractional programming problem with a finite number of ratios in the objective is studied. Optimality and duality results are established, some with the help of an auxiliary problem and some directly. Convexity and stability of the auxiliary problem play a key role in the latter part of the paper.

On canonical duality theory and constrained optimization problems

Journal of Global Optimization, 2021
The author proposes for constrained optimization problems in finite-dimensional spaces a rigorous study of the ``canonical duality theory'' introduced by D. Y. Gao. Moreover, several inconsistencies in the Gao papers are also discussed.

Duality Theory and Optimality Conditions

1995
A fundamental problem in optimization is the characterization of the solution of the optimization problem. In linear programming theory, this is achieved by Duality theory. This theory establishes a relationship between optimal solutions of two closely related linear programs, called the pair of dual linear programs. We now introduce this theory.

Connections between duality in control theory and convex optimization

Proceedings of 1995 American Control Conference - ACC'95, 2005
Several important problems in control theory can be reformulated as convex optimization problems. From duality theory in convex optimization, dual problems can be derived for these convex optimization problems. These dual problems can in turn be reinterpreted in control or system theoretic terms, often yielding new results or new proofs for existing ...
