Numerical Modeling of Wave Reflection from Sloped Impermeable Seawalls Using the SPH Method: Case Study of Chabahar Port

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
In this research, a comprehensive study is performed to investigate the interaction of regular waves with the impermeable seawall of the Chabahar port. First, a MIKE 21 SW model is used to transform the deep-water wave data to the nearshore zone.

Numerical Modelling of Flow-Debris Interaction during Extreme Hydrodynamic Events with DualSPHysics-CHRONO [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Floods can transport debris of a very wide range of dimensions, from cohesive sediments to large floating debris, such as trees and cars. The latter increases the risk associated with floods by, for example, obstructing the flow or damaging structures ...

Sloshing Simulation of Single-Phase and Two-Phase SPH using DualSPHysics

open access: yesKapal, 2020
The sloshing phenomenon is one of the free surface flow that can endanger liquid cargo carriers such as ships. Sloshing is defined as the resonance of fluid inside a tank caused by external oscillation.

DualSPHysics: from fluid dynamics to multiphysics problems [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Particle Mechanics, 2021
DualSPHysics is a weakly compressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) Navier–Stokes solver initially conceived to deal with coastal engineering problems, especially those related to wave impact with coastal structures. Since the first release back in 2011, DualSPHysics has shown to be robust and accurate for simulating extreme wave events along ...

Mass exchange between geophysical flows and beds: Idealised computational modelling using a Herschel-Bulkley rheology [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2023
A key mechanism by which geophysical flows evolve is mass exchange with the underlying bed, either by entraining material from the bed, or by depositing material.

A portable C++ library for memory and compute abstraction on multi‐core CPUs and GPUs

open access: yesConcurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience, Volume 35, Issue 25, 15 November 2023., 2023
Abstract We present a C++ library for transparent memory and compute abstraction across CPU and GPU architectures. Our library combines generic data structures like vectors, multi‐dimensional arrays, maps, graphs, and sparse grids with basic generic algorithms like arbitrary‐dimensional convolutions, copying, merging, sorting, prefix sum, reductions ...

Numerical Investigation of the Local Shear Rate in a Twin‐Screw Extruder for the Continuous Processing of Li‐Ion Battery Electrode Slurries

open access: yesEnergy Technology, Volume 11, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023
Different flow conditions are simulated to determine the effect of the process parameters and the screw geometry on the shear rate in the extruder. The screw rotational speed has the greatest effect on the shear rate. Moreover, partial filling of the screw also induces different shear profiles due to material flow behavior.

Recent Advances and New Frontiers in Riverine and Coastal Flood Modeling

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 61, Issue 2, June 2023., 2023
Abstract Over the past decades, the scientific community has made significant efforts to simulate flooding conditions using a variety of complex physically based models. Despite all advances, these models still fall short in accuracy and reliability and are often considered computationally intensive to be fully operational.

Confirmation of vehicle stability criteria through a combination of smoothed particle hydrodynamics and laboratory measurements

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 16, Issue 2, June 2023., 2023
Abstract This study combines laboratory experiments and numerical modelling in a novel manner to assess vehicle stability. Assessing vehicle stability forms the basis of hazard classification criteria, which in turn helps in forming safety guidelines for stream crossings and planning of evacuation routes in times of floods.
