Auditory Function in Duane's Retraction Syndrome
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1990We obtained audiograms and auditory brainstem responses from 44 patients with Duane's retraction syndrome to assess the incidence and nature of hearing deficit. Of 44 patients, seven (15.9%) had evidence of hearing impairment. Three (6.8%) subjects had a temporary conductive hearing loss because of middle ear fluid, and another patient had hearing loss

Sensory adaptations in Duane's retraction syndrome
Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica, 1995ABSTRACT Knowledge of the sensory status of patients with Duane's retraction syndrome is limited. Fourteen patients with type A Duane's retraction syndrome, aged 6 to 22 years, were assessed prospectively and their sensory findings and the nature of their sensory symptoms detailed.

Duane retraction syndrome is a unilateral or bilateral condition characterized by abnormal innervation to the extraocular muscles that results in limitation of eye movement and co-contraction of muscles that are normally antagonists (Duane, Arch Ophthalmol 34:133–59, 1905).

Duane's retraction syndrome (DRS) is a congenital abnormality of ocular motility that occurs in about 1% of strabismic patients. Three types have been described and the clinical features include incomitant horizontal strabismus, restricted motility and globe retraction.

Association of Duane Retraction Syndrome and Brown Syndrome
Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, 2005Brown syndrome and esotropic Duane syndrome are common forms of noncomitant strabismus. We report the unusual coexistence of these two eye movement abnormalities in a 5-year-old boy. Strabismus surgery for both conditions was required to improve the head posture. Congenital Anomalies in Duane's Retraction Syndrome
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1972Patients with sporadic Duane's retraction syndrome (congenital aberrant innervation) appear to have a significant increase in the number of associated congenital malformations. These are primarily facial anomalies, ear and hearing anomalies, skeletal deformities, and roentgenographic malformations in the upper vertebral column and rib cage.

The clinical findings for 29 patients with Duane's retraction syndrome (DRS) are reported. Similar to other studies, a preponderance of females, left eye involvement, and type I DRS occurred. The incidence of both anisometropia and amblyopia was somewhat higher than for the normal population.
