An Integrated Oxygen‐Supplying Device and Predictive Multiphysics Model for Extended Ambient Transport of Insulin‐Producing Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cell therapies typically rely on cold‐chain logistics and cryopreservation, limiting access and compromising cell quality. Here, a dual‐chamber device separates an oxygen‐supplying chamber from a hyaluronic acid cargo chamber, sustaining oxygen delivery for over 70 h and enabling ambient‐temperature shipment.

Introducing Dublin III [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The Dublin III Regulation entered into force on 19 July 2013, and is intended to serve as a recast of the Dublin II Regulation, which itself replaced the Dublin Convention in 2003.

Space and the Geographical Imagination on the Dublin Docklands’ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In my practice–based doctoral study Dublin Dockers, Visualising a Changing Community, I am foregrounding the application of ethnographic documentary methods and investigation in examining the world of a docker and stevedore community on Dublin\u27s docks.

Enhanced Ferroelectric Phase Formation via Local Structure Modification in the Pre‐Crystalline State of Hafnium Zirconium Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hafnium zirconium oxide thin films are grown using plasma‐enhanced atomic layer deposition with the addition of an atomic layer annealing (ALA) step. ALA leads to a change in the short‐range structure of the deposit and encourages formation of the ferroelectric Pca21 phase. The result is wake‐up‐free performance with films exposed to ALA.

Transcription Factor Promiscuity Drives Regulatory Rewiring and Evolvability in Gene Networks in Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
When a master transcription factor (TF) is lost, bacteria can rapidly rewire gene regulatory networks by co‐opting related regulators. Using experimental evolution in Pseudomonas fluorescens, we show that TF promiscuity (low‐level, non‐cognate binding) provides the raw material for rewiring. Successful co‐option follows a predictable hierarchy governed

Migration and the Dystopian Imagination of European Border Regimes

open access: yesC21 Literature: Journal of 21st-century Writings
Inward migration has long troubled the European political imagination. For example, an emphasis on fortification and low immigration was key to the civilisational fantasy of many early modern European literary Utopias. The dominant contemporary political

The Reform of the Dublin III Regulation: How to Build or Not to Build Further Enforcing Mechanisms

open access: yesSpanish Yearbook of International Law, 2019
The European Commission’s proposal for the reform of the Common European Asylum System was presented in 2016 as a package deal. Of all the contentious legal instruments to be reformed, the most complex is the proposal for the Dublin IV Regulation. This article particularly seeks to identify the changes that illustrate the reactions of the European ...

Interpretable Machine Learning Framework for Nb─Si Based Alloy Design with Enhanced Fracture Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An interpretable machine learning framework integrating SHAP and PDP analysis identifies critical design descriptors from 139 physicochemical features for Nb─Si alloys. The framework achieves <7% prediction error and guides the discovery of Nb38.5Ti38.5Si3Zr18V2 alloy with 22.791 MPa·m1/2 fracture toughness, breaking the 20 MPa·m1/2 barrier.
