Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Fine needle aspiration cytology findings of mucinous carcinoma of breast: a study of eight cases with histological correlation

open access: yesJournal of Pathology of Nepal, 2012
Background: Pure mucinous carcinoma is a rare histologic type of mammary neoplasm and may exist as mixed mucinous-ductal carcinoma. This study aims to describe fine needle aspiration cytology features of mucinous carcinoma of breast diagnosed in ...

Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early breast cancers is associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

The clinical behavior of mixed ductal/lobular carcinoma of the breast: a clinicopathologic analysis

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgical Oncology, 2010
Background To date, the clinical presentation and prognosis of mixed ductal/lobular mammary carcinomas has not been well studied, and little is known about the outcome of this entity. Thus, best management practices remain undetermined due to a dearth of

Readmissions and complications in breast ductal carcinoma in situ: A retrospective study comparing screen- and non-screen-detected patients

open access: yesWomen's Health, 2020
Objective: Population-wide mammographic screening programs aim to reduce breast cancer mortality. However, a broad view of the harms and benefits of these programs is necessary to favor informed decisions, especially in the earliest stages of the disease.

Gene expression signatures of individual ductal carcinoma in situ lesions identify processes and biomarkers associated with progression towards invasive ductal carcinoma

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Progression from ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) to invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) remains poorly understood. Here, the authors analyse over 2700 micro-dissected samples using transcriptomics to identify genes that characterise different stages of DCIS ...

Continued observation of the natural history of low-grade ductal carcinoma in situ reaffirms proclivity for local recurrence even after more than 30 years of follow up

open access: yesModern Pathology, 2014
Opportunities to study the natural history of ductal carcinoma in situ are rare. A few studies of incompletely excised lesions in the premammographic era, retrospectively recognized as ductal carcinoma in situ, have demonstrated a proclivity for local ...

Can high-frequency ultrasound predict metastatic lymph nodes in patients with invasive breast cancer? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Aim To determine whether high-frequency ultrasound can predict the presence of metastatic axillary lymph nodes, with a high specificity and positive predictive value, in patients with invasive breast cancer.

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples
