To evaluate the tensile behavior, microstructural evolution, and deformation mechanisms of Ti-45Al-8Nb alloy additively manufactured by electron beam melting, uniaxial tensile experiments were performed at a constant strain rate of 2.5 × 10−4 s−1 at ...

Hump on upper shelf of ductile—brittle transition temperature curve of a plain carbon steel [PDF]
The ductile—brittle transition temperature (DBTT) in a plain carbon steel has been studied in a series of Charpy V notch samples. Both non-standard and standard samples were used in the as drawn, normalised and annealed conditions. In all cases, a hump was recorded on the upper shelf of the DBTT.

Recently, projects have been proposed to engineer deep geothermal reservoirs in the ductile crust. To examine their feasibility, we performed high-temperature (up to 1000 °C), high-pressure (130 MPa) triaxial experiments on granite (initially-intact and ...

Effects of thermal aging at 873 K on the impact properties of an ODS ferritic steel
This investigation presents the effects of long-term thermal aging on the impact properties of an ODS reduced activation ferritic steel. The ODS ferritic steel, with composition Fe–14Cr–2W–0.4Ti–0.3Y2O3 (wt.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

AN ANALYSIS OF IMPACT TESTING OF HIGH STRENGTH LOW-ALLOY STEELS USED IN SHIP CONSTRUCTION
Brittle damages have been examined widely since welding became common practice when it comes to carrying out robust structures. Welded structure of the ship hull has to be continuous.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.
