Analysis of Ductile to Brittle Transition Temperature of Stainless Steel

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
All ferrous materials exhibit a transition from ductile to brittle when tested above and below a certain temperature, called as Transition Temperature. The Ductile-to-Brittle Transition Temperature is a phenomenon which is mainly observed in metals. Below the particular temperature the material suddenly losses its ductility and it changes from ductile ...

Ductile-to-brittle transition temperature behavior of platinum-modified coatings

Materials Science and Engineering, 1987
Abstract It has been reported that the addition of platinum to diffusion aluminide coatings can significantly increase the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) but the current database is small. Comparison of results is difficult because of the number of variables in the coating systems, their processing, the resulting coating ...

Effect of temperature on ductile-to-brittle transition in diamond cutting of silicon

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2021
Ultra-precision machining of single-crystal silicon can be realized by applying single-point diamond turning with micro-laser-assisted machining technology, through which the ductility of silicon can be enhanced. However, it is difficult to explain the role of temperature accurately in such technology in a traditional manner.

Effect of specimen size in determining ductile to brittle transition temperature

Materials Science and Technology, 2015
Ductile to brittle transition temperature (DBTT) for 9Cr–1Mo steel has been determined from Charpy impact testing for full size and subsized specimens. DBTT was obtained at various percentage of upper shelf energy (USE). Assuming that most of the energy is spent in crack initiation, notch root volumes of subsized specimens ( VNS) were normalised with ...

Control of ductile to brittle transition temperature in ferritic pressure vessel steel

Materials Science and Technology, 2011
Controlled amounts of cold work are shown to cause a minimum in the ductile to brittle transition temperature (DBTT) in a ferritic steel at a critical level of ∼1·5. Mechanical property assessments show that the hardness values exhibit the same trend.

Ductile-to-brittle transition temperature of thermally segregated WWER-1000 base metal

International Journal of Microstructure and Materials Properties, 2007
A series of thermal treatments on typical WWER-1000 reactor pressure vessel steel has been carried out to induce phosphorus segregation. Two conditions have been achieved with significantly different ductile-to-brittle transition temperatures, when compared to untreated metal.
