EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE FAILURE BEHAVIOUR OF POLYPROPYLENE COMPOUNDS FOR INSTRUMENTED PUNCTURE TESTS

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2018
Instrumented puncture tests according to ISO 6603-2 and ASTMD3763 were executed for five different Polypropylene compounds (talcum-, glass fibre- and elastomer modified) with specimen thicknesses ranging from 1mm to 4 mm.

Ductile to brittle transition of fracture of a Zr-based bulk metallic glass: Strain rate effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Quasi-static and dynamic tensile experiments were conducted on a Zr-based bulk metallic glass at room temperature. A significant ductile-to-brittle transition was identified with increasing strain rate, based on the changes in the macroscopic fracture ...

THE BRITTLE-TO-DUCTILE TRANSITION IN GERMANIUM [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The brittle-to-ductile transition in precracked germanium crystals has been studied experimentally. Germanium undergoes a "smooth" brittle-ductile transition, where the stress to fracture rises steadily with temperature, associated with dislocation ...

Ductile-to-brittle transition behavior of X52 line pipe steel at low temperatures and its implications for crack arrest in CO2 pipelines

open access: yes管道保护
During CO2 leakage, the Joule-Thomson effect and operational factors such as throttling and venting can cause the local temperature of the pipeline to drop abruptly to -78.5 ℃, significantly increasing the risk of brittle fracture.

Using Mini-CT Specimens for the Fracture Characterization of Ferritic Steels within the Ductile to Brittle Transition Range: A Review

open access: yesMetals, 2023
The use of mini-CT specimens for the fracture characterization of structural steels is currently a topic of great interest from both scientific and technical points of view, mainly driven by the needs and requirements of the nuclear industry.

Porosity evolution at the brittle-ductile transition in the continental crust: Implications for deep hydro-geothermal circulation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Recently, projects have been proposed to engineer deep geothermal reservoirs in the ductile crust. To examine their feasibility, we performed high-temperature (up to 1000 °C), high-pressure (130 MPa) triaxial experiments on granite (initially-intact and ...

The ductile to brittle transition behavior in a Zr-based bulk metallic glass [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ductile to brittle transition (DBT) of crystalline metals and alloys has been extensively studied in scientific and engineering fields. However, the DBT of non-crystalline metals and alloys such as bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) remains poorly ...

Tensile behavior, microstructural evolution, and deformation mechanisms of a high Nb-TiAl alloy additively manufactured by electron beam melting

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2023
To evaluate the tensile behavior, microstructural evolution, and deformation mechanisms of Ti-45Al-8Nb alloy additively manufactured by electron beam melting, uniaxial tensile experiments were performed at a constant strain rate of 2.5 × 10−4 s−1 at ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.
