A Continuous Damage Mechanics Model for Ductile Fracture

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Materials and Technology, Transactions of the ASME, 1985
A model of isotropic ductile plastic damage based on a continuum damage variable, on the effective stress concept and on thermodynamics is derived. The damage is linear with equivalent strain and shows a large influence of triaxiality by means of a damage equivalent stress. Identification for several metals is made by means of elasticity modulus change

Analyses of Stress-State-Dependent Ductile Damage and Fracture Behavior of Zirconium. [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel)
In this study, the fracture behavior of zirconium was investigated by a hybrid experimental and numerical simulation method. Uniaxial tensile tests were conducted on samples of various geometries, thereby covering a wide range of stress states at fracture characterized by stress triaxiality between 0.05 and 0.96 and Lode angle parameter between 0.01 ...

Numerical modelling of dynamic ductile fracture propagation in different lab-scale experiments using GTN damage model

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2020
Initiation and propagation of ductile fractures are major consideration during the design of high-pressure pipelines. Consequences of a pipeline failure can be catastrophic thus structural integrity must be ensured over several decades.

Gradient‐enhanced damage growth modeling of ductile fracture [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2021
AbstractWe present a gradient‐enhanced damage model for ductile fracture modeling, describing the degraded material response coupled to temperature. Continuum thermodynamics is used to represent components of the energy dissipation as induced by the effective material response, thermal effects, and damage evolution.

Prediction method for ductile crack initiation and growth resistance for pre-strained steel based on ductile damage model

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2023
This study aims to develop a numerical simulation-based method for predicting ductile crack growth resistance curve (R-curve) for pre-strained components for rational assessment of ductile crack growth controlling fracture for pre-strained structural ...

Comparison of Modified Mohr–Coulomb Model and Bai–Wierzbicki Model for Constructing 3D Ductile Fracture Envelope of AA6063

open access: yesChinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2021
Ductile fracture of metal often occurs in the plastic forming process of parts. The establishment of ductile fracture criterion can effectively guide the selection of process parameters and avoid ductile fracture of parts during machining. The 3D ductile

Damage accumulation of bovine bone under variable amplitude loads

open access: yesBone Reports, 2016
Stress fractures, a painful injury, are caused by excessive fatigue in bone. This study on damage accumulation in bone sought to determine if the Palmgren-Miner rule (PMR), a well-known linear damage accumulation hypothesis, is predictive of fatigue ...
