Study of the slant fracture in solid and hollow cylinders: Experimental analysis and numerical prediction

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2022
This paper is devoted to the numerical and experimental study of ductile fracture in bulk metal forming of the 2017A-T4 aluminum alloy. From an experimental standpoint, the ductile fracture of the 2017A-T4 aluminum alloy is investigated under ...

Microstructure and mechanism of adiabatic shear fracture during serrated chip formation of hard machining

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2014
The formation and development of serrated chip morphology and adiabatic shear bands (ASBs) and the microstructure of fracture surfaces in the serrated chips during hard machining of hardened alloy steel are observed, the mechanism of adiabatic shear ...

Multi-field modelling and simulation of large deformation ductile fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In the present contribution we focus on a phase-field approach to ductile fracture applied to large deformation contact problems. Phase-field approaches to fracture allow for an efficient numerical investigation of complex three-dimensional fracture problems,

On the Interface Between LENS® Deposited Stainless Steel 304L Repair Geometry and Cast or Machined Components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Laser Engineered Net Shaping™ (LENS®) is being evaluated for use as a metal component repair/modification process. A component of the evaluation is to better understand the characteristics of the interface between LENS deposited material and the ...

On continuum models of ductile fracture [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science, 1970
Several fracture criteria are reviewed with respect to ductile fracture. It is suggested that both critical crack-tip displacement, 2Vc*, and critical fracture strain,∃*, criteria may describe the fracture of a ductile second phase rod in a ductile matrix.

Synergistic All‐in‐One Electroceutical Platform Utilizing a Plasma–Photodynamic Hybrid Approach for Enhanced Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A flexible hybrid patch integrating a robust cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) system with a high‐power, ultrathin bio‐OLED was developed to enable synergistic wound healing. This multimodal therapy, combining plasma and photodynamic treatment, enhanced angiogenesis, cell proliferation, and collagen deposition, demonstrating superior in vivo efficacy and ...

Hybrid Nanofibers for Multimodal Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fabrication of wound healing scaffolds based on biocompatible nanofibers. Nanofibers offering high surface area, flexibility, and biocompatibility significantly improved the healing outcome in vivo. Histological, immunological, and anti‐inflammatory markers are noticeably better in treated wounds.

Prediction of heavy-section ductile iron fracture toughness based on machine learning

open access: yesScientific Reports
The preparation process and composition design of heavy-section ductile iron are the key factors affecting its fracture toughness. These factors are challenging to address due to the long casting cycle, high cost and complex influencing factors of this ...

Dynamic ductile to brittle transition in a one-dimensional model of viscoplasticity

open access: yes, 1998
We study two closely related, nonlinear models of a viscoplastic solid. These models capture essential features of plasticity over a wide range of strain rates and applied stresses.

Ti6Al4V‐Bioglass‐Copper Composites for Load‐Bearing Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We have designed and manufactured a novel Ti64‐based composite by adding 45S5 bioglass (BG) and copper (Cu). Adding BG on titanium improves wear resistance and biocompatibility, whereas Cu addition improves mechanical strength while providing inherent lifelong bacterial resistance.
