Ductile particle toughening of hydroxyapatite ceramics using platinum particles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Bioceramics such as hydroxyapatites have low fracture toughness and this has limited their widespread use in medicine. In this paper we describe a method for incorporating, ductile platinum particles into a hydroxyapatite matrix in order to improve the ...

Additive Manufacturing of Ordered Polymer Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new 3D printing strategy, Polymerization‐Induced Arrangement of Nanostructures with Order‐tunability (PIANO), enables the formation of ordered nanostructures in polymer materials by enhancing chain mobility during photopolymerization, overcoming the kinetic arrest that leads to disordered morphologies in the conventional Polymerization‐Induced ...

Impact toughness and fracture toughness of austempered ductile iron [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2004
The impact toughness and fracture toughness ofaustermpered ductile iron (ADI) are described. The notched and un-notched charpy impact toughness of ADI at room temperature are somewhat lower than that of steel castings or forged steel pieces, however ...

Self‐Seeded Nucleation of PET in a Benign Solvent Yields a High Modulus Aerogel With Ultra‐Low Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A new benign solvent (1,3‐diphenylacetone) enables a simple, safe, and sustainable dissolution and gelation method to convert waste PET into low density, monolithic aerogels with high mechanical strength (E = 20 MPa) and remarkably low thermal conductivity (k = 21.9 to 28.9 mW/m·K).

New void growth-based ductile fracture models incorporating interaction effects of stress triaxiality and Lode angle parameter [PDF]

open access: yes
The void growth rate in ductile fracture is influenced by both the stress triaxiality and Lode angle parameter. Traditional ductile fracture models often treat these effects independently, combining them as the product of two isolated terms.
