Predicting the behaviour of plastic hinges subjected to large inelastic deformations caused by extreme loads such as earthquakes plays an important role in assessing maximum stable deformation capacities of framed concrete structures. This paper presents

Brittle‐ductile coupling: Role of ductile viscosity on brittle fracturing [PDF]
Localized or distributed deformations in continental lithosphere are supposed to be triggered by rheological contrasts, and particularly by brittle‐ductile coupling. A plane‐strain 2D finite‐element model is used to investigate the mechanical role of a ductile layer in defining the transition from localized to distributed fracturing in a brittle layer.

Parametric study of I-shaped shear connectors with different orientations in push-out test
A great deal of research has been conducted to improve the understanding of the behavior of new types of shear connectors. This article presents the study of I-shaped connectors behavior under monotonic load welded in four different orientations in order

Ductile steel fibre composites with brittle and ductile matrices [PDF]
Abstract Due to the intrinsic brittleness of high performance fibres, traditional structural fibre-reinforced composites have limited ductility and toughness. In the present work a new class of fibres is explored for the reinforcement of polymers: continuous stainless steel fibres that simultaneously possess a high stiffness and a high strain-to ...

Ductility enhancement of geopolymer concrete columns using FRP confinement [PDF]
Geopolymer concrete is an environmentally friendly, green construction material. However its use is constrained by its increased brittleness and lack of understanding of its behaviour under multi-axial loadings.

Superior strength-ductility synergy by hetero-structuring high manganese steel
Lacking of forest hardening makes low ductility in steels long challenge particularly at high yield strength. Here, we report to make good use of hetero-structuring for superior strength-ductility synergy in high manganese steel.

Flexural Behavior of Post-Tensioned Concrete Beams with Multiple Internal Corroded Strands
The corrosion of prestressing steel in prestressed concrete bridges is a critical safety issue. To evaluate the strength of a prestressed concrete beam with corroded strands, it is necessary to know the mechanical properties of the corroded strands in ...
