Baseline Urinalysis of the Fully Marine, Herbivorous Dugong (Dugong dugon)
Aquatic Mammals, 2023The dugong (Dugong dugon) is a fully marine mammal that grazes in nearshore seagrass meadows and whose health is vulnerable to human coastal activities. This study establishes urine baseline ranges for apparently healthy dugongs that can be used as health biomarkers.

A study of Dugongs (Dugong dugong) in Northern Queensland, Australia
Biological Conservation, 1972Abstract The Dugong population in the vicinity of Townsville, Queensland, has been severely decimated as a result of a government-sponsored shark-netting programme begun in 1964. Only 7 out of a total of 158 Dugongs netted from 1964 to 1971 survived drowning and were released.

Diving behaviour of dugongs, Dugong dugon
Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 2004The diving behaviour of 15 dugongs (Dugong dugon) was documented using time–depth recorders (TDRs), which logged a total of 39,507 dives. The TDRs were deployed on dugongs caught at three study sites in northern Australia: Shark Bay, the Gulf of Carpentaria and Shoalwater Bay.

Biological Conservation, 1976Abstract Growth layers in the dentine of about 75 dugong, Dugong dugon (Muller), unworn permanent incisor teeth have been examined with a view to absolute age determination. Thirteen of these teeth come from complete skulls which had previously been allocated relative ages within three arbitrary life stage groups (Mitchell, 1973).
