Flexible polymeric chains (Kuhn chains) made up of nematogenic moieties are considered here. The simplest approach to the dynamics of such a system, in both the isotropic and the nematic phases, is that of modeling the chain as an elastic dumbbell where the ‘‘spring’’ law also accounts for the nematic interaction.

Two cases of dumbbell bronchogenic cysts, similar in gross morphology and general location, have been encountered by the author in the past five years. These unusual-appearing cysts are thought to be of developmental origin and would appear to fall somewhere in between simple single bronchogenic cysts and so-called congenital cystic bronchiectasis or ...

Dumbbell Neuroblastomas in Children
Archives of Surgery, 1975A "dumbbell" neuroblastoma is a malignant neoplasm usually primary in the mediastinum or retroperitoneum with posterior extension through an intervertebral foramen to additional tumor within the spinal canal. Neurologic deficits are found in almost all cases.

Sticky dumbbells: from Hookean dumbbells to transient network
Rheologica Acta, 1997The Green-Tobolsky theory of transient networks is merged to the Hookean dumbbell model by considering Hookean sticky dumbbells, whose beads can randomly be stuck to a network submitted to affine deformation, or be set free from the network and undergo a free diffusive Brownian motion in the solvent.

Dumbbell ganglioneuromas in childhood
Child's Nervous System, 1993The incidence of dumbbell tumors among spinal neoplasms is between 10% and 15%. Approximately 1% of neoplasms located at or near the spinal cord are ganglioneuromas. Ganglioneuromas are rare, slow-growing, benign tumors arising from sympathetic ganglia. The cases of two children with spinal dumbbell ganglioneuroma are presented. The tumors were totally

Synthesis of Colloidal Silica Dumbbells
Langmuir, 2005We describe the synthesis and characterization of stable suspensions of monodisperse fluorescently labeled silica dumbbell particles. Pure dispersions of silica dumbbells with center-to-center lengths from 174 nm to 2.3 microm were produced with a variety of aspect ratios.

Congenital dumbbell neuroblastoma
Pediatric Surgery International, 1990A rare case of congenital dumbbell neuroblastoma with paraplegia and sphincter involvement is described. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) clearly demonstrated both intraspinal and right paravertebral tumors in a patient who showed signs of paraplegia of the lower extremities at birth.
