Age infusion approach to derive injury assessment risk curves for dummies from human cadaver tests

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2015
Injury criteria and risk curves are needed for anthropomorphic test devices (dummies) to assess injuries for improving human safety. The present state of knowledge is based on using injury outcomes and biomechanical metrics from post-mortem human subject

Antibody‐Precomplexed Hemagglutinin Constructs Multivalently Bind Sialylated Glycan Receptors with Variable Valencies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Hemagglutinin precomplexation with antibodies (Abs) results in broad valency distributions, though it increases the total avidity from mM to nM to high nM. The valency distribution and the orientation of multivalent HA‐Ab complexes determine the extent of binding to different types of assays, whether the receptors are displayed in 2D or 3D.

Research on the Maximum Dummy Overlord Calculation Model of High-speed Airdrop Based on the Theorem of Impulse

open access: yesHangkong gongcheng jinzhan, 2020
The purpose of the dummy high-speed airdrop test is to evaluate the maximum overload on the human body during the process of opening the parachute. Due to the poor repeatability and high cost of the test, it is necessary to establish a calculation model ...

Rubber‐Glass‐Crystal Triple Phase Transition in Polyacrylamide Hydrogels and Environment‐Adaptive Shape Memory Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
By analyzing the thermal‐mechanical properties and molecular‐scale interactions in polyacrylamide (PAAM) hydrogels, this research demonstrates a rubber‐glass‐crystal phase transition under the combined stimuli of temperature and moisture. Because of these hybrid phase transitions, PAAM hydrogels exhibit shape memory behavior in thermal and moist ...

Predatory behavior under monocular and binocular conditions in the semiterrestrial crab Neohelice granulata

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2023
IntroductionNeohelice granulata crabs live in mudflats where they prey upon smaller crabs. Predatory behavior can be elicited in the laboratory by a dummy moving at ground level in an artificial arena.

Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

Soft Robotic Excretory Care Simulator for Nursing Education: Functional and Perceptual Biomimetics Approach

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A soft robotic simulator is developed to replicate the digital removal of feces (DRF), a sensitive yet essential nursing procedure. Integrating soft actuators, sensors, and a realistic rectal model, the simulator balances functional fidelity with perceptual realism. Engineering evaluations and nurse feedback confirm its potential to enhance training in

Degradable Magnetic Composites from Recycled NdFeB Magnets for Soft Actuation and Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a degradable soft magnetic composite made from recycled NdFeB particles embedded in a gelatin‐based organogel. The material is processed into magnetic sensors and soft robotic components, which can later be dissolved in a green solvent to recover NdFeB magnetic particles.
