Toxic effects of ZnO nanoparticles towards marine algae Dunaliella tertiolecta
Dose response curve and population growth rate alterations of marine Chlorophyte Dunaliella tertiolecta derived from the exposure to ZnO nanoparticles were evaluated. Bulk ZnO and ionic zinc were also investigated for comparison. At the same time, the aggregation state and particle size distribution were monitored.

Effects of Salt Concentrations and Nitrogen and Phosphorus Starvations on Neutral Lipid Contents in the Green Microalga Dunaliella tertiolecta [PDF]
Dunaliella tertiolecta, a halotolerant alga, can accumulate large amounts of neutral lipid, which makes it a potential biodiesel feedstock. In this study, neutral lipids of D. tertiolecta induced by different salinities or N or P starvation were analyzed

Physiological responses of Dunaliella salina and Dunaliella tertiolecta to copper toxicity
Biomolecular Engineering, 2005Species differences in heavy metal tolerance were investigated by comparing the responses of Dunaliella tertiolecta and Dunaliella salina to elevated concentrations of CuCl2. Although both species showed reduced cell number ml(-1) of algal culture, D. salina was more affected by increase in CuCl2. This reflects higher sensitivity of D.

A salt-sensitive mutant of Dunaliella tertiolecta
Archives of Microbiology, 1987A mutant of Dunaliella tertiolecta produced by treatment with methyl nitrosoguanidine and designated HL25/8, grew more slowly than the parent strain under all experimental conditions and was conspicuously less tolerant of NaCl. Total photosynthetic activity (C-fixation and O2 evolution) was less in HL25/8 than in the parent strain and was affected ...

PHOTOTOXICITY OF AZAARENE ISOMERS TO THE MARINE FLAGELLATE DUNALIELLA TERTIOLECTA
Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 2001AbstractMany studies have shown that narcosis or baseline toxicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is strongly related to their lipophilicity. For azaarenes, such relationships have also been demonstrated, but for some compounds, deviations from these relationships have been observed, even for closely related compounds such as isomers.

Naphthenic acid biodegradation by the unicellular alga Dunaliella tertiolecta
Chemosphere, 2011Naphthenic acids (NAs) are a major contributor to toxicity in tailings waste generated from bitumen production in the Athabasca Oil Sands region. While investigations have shown that bacteria can biodegrade NAs and reduce tailings toxicity, the potential of algae to biodegrade NAs and the biochemical mechanisms involved remain poorly understood.
