Lipid Productivity of Marine Microalgae Dunaliella tertiolecta in Marmara Seawater and Johnson’s Media with Different Salinities and Evaluation as A Raw Material Source for Biofuel Production

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research in Natural and Applied Sciences, 2021
Microalgae are increasingly used in the production of various industrial chemicals. Lipids from major microalgae crops are similar to lipids obtained from oilseed plants and can be converted into biodiesel, moreover, microalgae are more advantageous than

Combined Impact of Nanoplastics and Temperature on Green Algae: Implications for Growth, Lipid Content and Organic Exudates

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 6, December 2025.
The combined effects of nanoplastics and temperature on green algae were investigated. Higher NP concentration suppressed the temperature‐induced growth of the algae. Temperature plays a dominant role in influencing fatty acid composition and chemistry of AOM than exposure to NPs.

Marine Algae‐Derived Bioactives: A Sustainable Resource for the Food and Agriculture Industries

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 6, Issue 6, Page 2514-2541, November 2025.
Algae are widely used in food and agriculture due to their bioactive compounds and are an eco‐friendly natural preservative and low carbon farming method. However, the problems regarding safety and acceptance still remain as tools like nanotechnology make improvements.

APPLICATION OF ELECTRIC FIELDS TO CONTROL POPULATION GROWTH OF Dunaliella tertiolecta IN VITRO

open access: yes, 2008
Algae blooms are naturally occurring phenomena that exist worldwide. Harmful blooms can create a noxious kill zone capable of suffocating fish and poisoning people. This paper explores the application of electrical fields as a way to control growth in an

Lipid Indices and Antioxidant Capacity in Dunaliella and Tetraselmis: Functional Insights for n-3 Supply in Aquafeed Ingredient

open access: yesPhycology
Aquafeed formulations often rely on lipid sources that supply n-3 fatty acids but are vulnerable to oxidation, highlighting the need for ingredients that clarify how n-3 delivery and oxidative stability interact.

Long Term Copepod Culture Houses a Rich Microbial Eukaryotic Community Including New and Known Symbionts

open access: yesJournal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, Volume 72, Issue 6, November/December 2025.
ABSTRACT Copepods, dominant marine zooplankton, are hosts to microbial eukaryotic symbionts, but the copepod eukaryome remains largely unexplored. We used 18S rRNA gene primers with reduced metazoan amplification to identify microbial eukaryotes in a culture of Calanus finmarchicus (Copepoda).

Physiological adaptation of two unicellular green algae to pH stress. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Two marine algae, Dunaliella parva and Chlorococcum submarinum were selected to study the effect of pH stress on single celled algae. D. parva has been well characterised physiologically, but not with regards to pH stress.

Plastids in a Pinch: Coordinating Stress and Developmental Responses Through Retrograde Signalling

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 9, Page 6897-6911, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Plastids are crucial for fuelling and regulating plant growth and development. Photosynthesising chloroplasts provide energy for growth, while other plastids play additional key roles in various aspects of plant physiology. For function and development, plastids greatly depend on nucleus‐encoded proteins, and they can modulate the synthesis of

Algal sensitivity to nickel toxicity in response to phosphorus starvation

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
In all living cells, phosphorus plays an important function in the transport of metabolic energy and as a structural component of nucleotide and phospholipid molecules.

CO2‐Dependent Promotion of Photosynthesis Drives Metabolic Photoacclimation in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 177, Issue 5, September/October 2025.
ABSTRACT Light and inorganic carbon (Ci) drive photosynthesis, which fuels cellular maintenance, energy storage, and growth in photosynthetic organisms. Despite its pivotal role, how primary metabolism adjusts to contrasting light and Ci availability in algae remains elusive.
