Abstract Panicum amarum (bitter panicum), an economically important dune grass used in dune building and stabilization projects throughout the southeastern United States, was planted in protected (exclosed) and unprotected (unexclosed) plots to assess the importance of vertebrate herbivory on P.

Restoration of eroded coastal sand dunes using plant and soil-conditioner mixture
International Biodeterioration & Biodegradation, 2016Abstract In this study, we evaluated the ability of a soil-conditioner mixture to reduce soil erosion of coastal sand dunes. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium Bacillus sp. SH1RP8 was isolated from indigenous plants normally found in coastal sand dunes.

The ability of several sand dune inhabiting plant species to successfully colonize dune sites appears to depend upon the presence in the soil of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) that form mutualistic associations with roots.

Topography and vegetation of restored dunes on a developed barrier island were examined after a large-scale beach nourishment project. Restoration began in 1993 using sand-trapping fences andAmmophila breviligulata Fern. plantings. Subsequent growth of dunes was favored by installing new fences and suspending beach raking to accommodate nesting birds ...

Two decades of dune slack restoration in North Wales: diversity, community and habitat specialists [PDF]
Humid dunes slacks are a highly threatened habitat, listed as vulnerable in the EU habitat red list. Accelerated successional processes in dune systems have resulted in the loss and degradation of ideal conditions for specialist dune slack species, hence

Restoration Ecology, 2016
Coastal sand dunes support various ecosystem services, including storm protection and tourism. Restoration programs are often critical to preserve this ecosystem due to its fragility and high degree of degradation. Dune restoration still suffers from a general lack of knowledge of the ecological processes controlling tropical dune communities.

Abstract Controlling desertification is an important ecological target for the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China, where studies on impacts of vegetation restoration measures on sandy soil improvement are still lacking. The Mugetan Desert in Guinan County, Qinghai Province, northeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau is a representative ecological restoration ...

Given the important role that soil microbes play in structuring plant communities and mediating ecosystem functions, there is growing interest in harnessing microbial communities to restore degraded ecosystems. Dune restorations, in particular, may benefit from native soil amendments because microbial diversity and abundance are very low in unvegetated

Abstract In this study, Bacillus sp. SH1RP8, which showed salt tolerance toward 8% of salinity, was isolated and evaluated the plant growth-promoting ability, IAA producibility, active ACC deaminase and siderophores synthesis. Bacillus sp. SH1RP8 enhanced the shoot growth and dry weight of Peucedanum japonicum, the representative coastal sand dune ...
