Soil and vegetation conditions changes following the different sand dune restoration measures on the Zoige Plateau.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Alpine sand dunes restoration is extremely difficult but important in the ecosystem restoration. Sand dunes are known as harsh soil and poor seed bank which freed from advantages on plants growth naturally.

Hurricane‐induced risk contagion in commercial real estate: Evidence from Hurricane Sandy

open access: yesReal Estate Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examines how hurricane‐induced destruction affects the prices of nearby undamaged commercial real estate properties, using Hurricane Sandy as a natural experiment. Using Real Capital Analytics transaction records spatially merged with Federal Emergency Management Agency building‐level damage data, we empirically employ a difference ...

Taxonomic and functional diversity of noctuoid moths in a Mediterranean coastal area: implications for dune conservation in a long‐term ecological research eLTER site

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the taxonomic and functional diversity of noctuoid moths in a protected coastal dune system in Central Italy, revealing strong ecological associations between moth assemblages and dune zonation. Differences in species composition and trait attributes, along with the presence of habitat‐exclusive species, highlight the role of ...

Nest Survival Models and Genomics Illuminate Hybridisation Attempts, Guiding Culturally Informed Management to Recover a Critically Endangered Seabird

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Long‐term monitoring has revealed hybridisation attempts between the Critically Endangered Kuaka Whenua Hou (KWH, Pelecanoides whenuahouensis) and the abundant Kuaka (P. urinatrix). Here we use modelling based on population monitoring data in tandem with genomic data to investigate these attempts and the risk they pose to KWH recovery.

Sand dune risk assessment in Sabha region, Libya using Landsat 8, MODIS, and Google Earth Engine images

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2018
Globally, sand dunes are a major environmental problem that causes damage to urban areas, transportation, and population. The current study proposes a comprehensive investigation on sand dune risk modeling in Sabha located in the southwestern part of ...

Managing the Threat of Subsidized Predators for a Threatened Shorebird

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Subsidized predators—native predators that have become more common due to human activities—challenge the persistence of many at‐risk prey species and require creative solutions beyond lethal predator control. In an 8‐year study, we placed small wire cages over western snowy plover nests that allow passage of plovers, but not their predators, and ...

Soil wetting and drying processes influence stone artefact distribution in clay‐rich soils: A case study from Middle Gidley Island in Murujuga, northwest Western Australia

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
Abstract Soils that contain swelling clay minerals (e.g., montmorillonite) expand and contract during wetting and drying, causing movement within the soil profile. This process, known as argilliturbation, can alter artefact distributions, destroy stratigraphy and complicate the interpretation of archaeological deposits.
