He denied hematemesis, melena, change in bowel habits, or weight loss. On examination the abdomen was neither tender nor distended and bowel sounds were normal.

Archives of Surgery, 1948CONGENITAL atresia and stenosis of the intestinal tract of infants have been associated with a high mortality rate. In 1922 Davis and Poynter 1 collected 392 cases. The mortality was 100 per cent for congenital occlusive lesions of the intestines between the pylorus and the rectum.

2014Congenital duodenal atresia is a congenital bowel obstruction, usually affecting the second part of duodenum. The overall incidence is about one in 6000 births. Approximately one-third of patients with duodenal obstruction have trisomy 21 (Down’s syndrome).

Neonatal duodenal obstruction.
The American journal of gastroenterology, 1979The records of 40 infants with intrinsic duodenal obstruction have been reviewed. Of these more than half had no bile in the vomit. Persistent vomiting had been considered as the major factor of doubt regarding duodenal obstruction. The incidence of other associated congenital abnormalities was 70%. The over all mortality rate was 42.5%.
