A 3-month-old female infant was noted to have two near mirror image anal openings: an anterior, normally sited, anus and a posterior duplicated proctodeum. Ultrasound and X-rays were normal. Contrast X-ray showed 2-cm long non-communicating proctodeal duplication.

Scapular duplication is an exceedingly rare congenital anomaly. We present a unique case of left-sided duplication without additional malformations other than those involving the left upper extremity. Treatment of similar cases has been successful, and further work-up for additional anomalies should be undertaken.

Recent experience with two cases of rectal duplication, which had been misdiagnosed as hemorrhoids, or fistula-in-ano with resultant delay in diagnosis, prompted us to review our prior experience with 11 of these unusual cases. Age at presentation ranged from newborn to 18 years (mean, 17 months).

Cloacal duplication including the rectum, anus, and genitourinary organs is one of supernumerary development. Only two cases have been reported in the literature. A case with cloacal duplication is presented. The patient was an 8-year-old girl who has had fecal incontinence since birth.

A newborn baby presented with a lump in the right hypochondrium. She had a bout of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. At operation, a pyloroduedenal duplication cyst was successfully removed. The relevant literature is reviewed.

We recently reported our progress toward the fully automated selection of amino acid sequences for target protein folds (1). In this communication, we described both the computational and experimental results associated with a sequence calculation that encompassed 20 of 28 residue positions in a target zinc finger fold.

Almost all types of congenital duplication described in humans have been observed in food animals, and a number are illustrated in this article. Congenital duplications, especially conjoined symmetric twins, are relatively common defects in cattle. The incidence is less in sheep and in hogs, and they appear to be rare in goats.

Spinal column duplication in association with other vertebral, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary tract anomalies is reported in a female infant. An embryologic explanation is postulated, in which the combination of anomalies is attributed to a single embryologic insult occurring the latter half of the third week of gestation.

Twenty-one children were treated for foregut duplications at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children over a 42-year period. There were 11 males and 10 females. The mean age at diagnosis was 1 year 6 months; antenatal diagnosis was made in 1 case. Respiratory and gastrointestinal (GI) presentation predominated.
