Carbon capture and storage (CCS): the way forward

open access: yes, 2018
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is broadly recognised as having the potential to play a key role in meeting climate change targets, delivering low carbon heat and power, decarbonising industry and, more recently, its ability to facilitate the net ...

SLiM 3: Forward Genetic Simulations Beyond the Wright–Fisher Model

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
With the desire to model population genetic processes under increasingly realistic scenarios, forward genetic simulations have become a critical part of the toolbox of modern evolutionary biology.

Per dynamin – per energian: Hrotsvit of Gandersheim’s knowledge of Greek

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 220-243, May 2025.
This paper investigates Hrotsvit of Gandersheim’s knowledge of Greek. It proceeds from three questions. First, what resources for learning Greek were available in tenth‐century Germany? Second, were there any figures in her ambit from whom she could have learned?

Mixed Matrix Pt‐Carbon Nanofiber Polyethersulfone Catalytic Membranes for Glucose Dehydrogenation

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 89, Issue 9, September 2024.
This work provides a proof of concept of a two‐membrane system for the catalytic dehydrogenation of glucose to gluconic acid. One is a catalytic active mixed matrix membrane (incorporation of Pt‐CNF) that has a high selectivity towards gluconic acid (93 %).

Best Subset, Forward Stepwise or Lasso? Analysis and Recommendations Based on Extensive Comparisons

open access: yes, 2020
In exciting recent work, Bertsimas, King and Mazumder (Ann. Statist. 44 (2016) 813–852) showed that the classical best subset selection problem in regression modeling can be formulated as a mixed integer optimization (MIO) problem.

Semi‐Flexible Immunobrushes Facilitate Effective and Selective Expansion of Antigen‐Specific T Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 34, Issue 14, April 3, 2024.
Adoptive T cell therapies have shown promising results in cancer treatment. Yet, generating substantial numbers of tumor‐targeting T cells remains challenging. Existing methods lack physiological precision, impeding clinical success. To address this, immunobrushes are prepared that effectively expand and enrich antigen‐specific T cells within non ...

Preliminary feasibility and effectiveness of a novel community language intervention for preschool children in the United Kingdom

open access: yesInternational Journal of Language &Communication Disorders, Volume 59, Issue 1, Page 276-292, January/February 2024.
Abstract Background Very young children from lower socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds often show poorer language development. Whilst there have been attempts to provide early intervention programmes, these sometimes miss the most disadvantaged groups.

Longitudinal development of forward and backward walking: impact of environmental constraints

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano, 2006
The purpose of this study was to investigate, through longitudinal observations, the onset and development of forward and backward walking in their temporal organization and the impact of environmental constraints.

Unraveling the consecutive recombination events in the human IGK locus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In addition to the classical Vkappa-Jkappa, Vkappa-kappa deleting element (Kde), and intron-Kde gene rearrangements, atypical recombinations involving Jkappa recombination signal sequence (RSS) or intronRSS elements can occur in the ...

Measuring the Effects of Federal Reserve Forward Guidance and Asset Purchases on Financial Markets

open access: yesJournal of Monetary Economics, 2017
I extend the methods of Gurkaynak, Sack, and Swanson (2005) to separately identify the effects of Federal Reserve forward guidance and large-scale asset purchases (LSAPs) during the 2009–15 U.S. zero lower bound (ZLB) period.
